JERRY WAYNE GANTT

PICKENS — Jerry Wayne Gantt, 77, loving husband of 56 years to Deborah “Debbie” Gantt, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 26, 1949, in Pickens, Wayne was the beloved son of the late Avery Lee Gantt and Cora Lee Crumpton Gantt. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, cheering on the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves, and spending quiet mornings or evenings on the porch with a cup of coffee. Those peaceful moments reflected the easygoing spirit and contentment that defined his life.

Mr. Gantt is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Gantt of Liberty; children, Dana Nicholson (Nick) of Easley, Scott Gantt of Pickens and Jaime Gantt of Liberty; grandchildren, Jeremy Gantt, Justin Gantt (Brittany), Angel Gantt, Logan Gantt, Charity Gantt, Emily Leopard (Dobber) and Bailey Morgano; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Raven, Kristina and Elias Gantt, Avery, Emma and Addisyn Turner, Katalina Morgano and Annabell Leopard; and sister, Wilma Fisher of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by a brother, Welton Gantt of Liberty; sister, Evelyn Smith of Liberty; and great-grandson, Oliver Turner of Pickens.

Funeral service were held on Aug. 5 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. A private family burial was held.

Flowers will be accepted.

AMANDA ‘MANDY’ ROBERTS

EASLEY — Amanda “Mandy” Roberts, 49, loving wife of more than 25 years to Joel Roberts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, in Easley.

Born on Nov. 11, 1976, in Steubenville, Ohio, Mandy was the beloved daughter of Charles E. White of Easley and Dianna Groves White of Winder, Ga.

Mandy was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend whose kind and generous heart touched everyone who knew her. She loved her family above all else and found joy in singing, dancing and sharing laughter with those around her. Purple was her favorite color and reflected the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her life. Known for her wonderful sense of humor, warm embraces and even her gift for giving comforting back rubs, Mandy had a way of making others feel loved and cared for. Her generous spirit, compassionate heart and infectious smile will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mandy is survived by her beloved son, Elijah Roberts of Easley; her brother, Charles D. White (Emily) of Winder, Ga.; her nephew, Davis White; and her father-in-law, Ken Roberts of Easley.

Mandy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dallas and June Groves.

JANICE WRIGHT

LIBERTY — With heavy hearts but warm memories, we celebrate the life of Laura Janice Waters Wright.

Born on Nov. 24, 1948, in Seneca, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Frances Hughes Waters. Janice, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, peacefully departed this world into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Aug. 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth.

Janice was retired as the dietary manager at The Willows of Easley, dedicating her career to nourishing others with the same love and care she put into her own family meals. Known for her incredible cooking skills, she had a flair for making abundant feasts that would feed an army. Every gathering was a special occasion, marked by delightful meals and joyous laughter shared with those she cherished. More importantly, Janice loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Norris First Baptist Church.

Family was at the core of Janice’s life. She is survived by her devoted husband of 26 years, William David Wright, her loving children, Beverly Morrison (Marty), Scott Goss (Lisa) and Mandy Davis (Greg); and her brother, Jeff Waters. She is also survived by six grandchildren who she adored, Heather Morrison Haney (Jeff Bilyeu), Kala Goss, Nikki Atkinson (Sam), Ashley Phelps (A.J.), Justin Davis (Brittany) and Josh Davis (Chelsey); and eight great-grandchildren, Ellie, Emersyn, Aria, Marshall, MacKenzie, River, Stetson and Hovey. Janice also leaves behind two loved ones who she cherished as her own, Cassie and Lily Grace Rogers. Together, they created a tapestry of memories filled with joy, adventure and love.

Janice had a special affinity for nature, finding peace in the company of birds and her beloved dog, Abby. She treasured the moments spent traveling to the beach and the mountains, embracing the beauty of the world around her.

In honor of Janice’s remarkable life, a visitation will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Liberty Mortuary, followed at 2 p.m. by a funeral service in the chapel, where we will celebrate the joy that Janice brought into our lives. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

JOHN G. BLACK

DACUSVILLE — John G. Black, 78, loving husband of 47 and a half years to Barbara Hendrick Black, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Oct. 31, 1947, in Pickens County, John was the beloved son of the late Clifton Black and Margaret Gray Black. A faithful member of Hunt’s Memorial Baptist Church, John lived a life rooted in faith, service and dedication to his community.

John found his greatest joy in the outdoors, especially rabbit hunting, and was always happiest when surrounded by nature. He faithfully served the Dacusville Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter for an incredible 43 years, a testament to his selfless heart and commitment to helping others. Throughout his career, he worked for Gulf Oil before retiring from Greenville County Roads and Bridges after many years of dedicated service.

Above all, John treasured his family. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness. In his quieter moments, he could often be found relaxing while watching his favorite television show, Gunsmoke. John will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his servant’s heart and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Barbara Black of the home; daughters, Amy Howard (Brett) of Dacusville and Kathy Burns (Jake) of Travelers Rest; grandchildren, J.W., Addie, Evan, Kaley, and Millie; sister, Geraldine Ramey (Mike) of Dacusville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Black.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the service at Hunt’s Memorial Baptist Church cemetery in Easley.
