6-24 Page 1A.inddOfficials announced the roster for the team last week, and Easley’s Holden Martin, Jacob Nelson, Jameson Spitzmiller, Andrew Stanifer, Mason Stewart and Casey Woodey will all suit up for the S.C. District 1 squad, which is looking for its first tournament championship since 2007 when the event returns to the J.B. “Red” Owens Complex beginning in late July.

Also returning to the team is former Daniel High School standout Christian Cain, who will play behind the plate at catcher for the hosts.

The Pickens County natives will be joined on the squad by Chase Carpenter, Adam Hill and Chase Kinsey of T.L. Hanna, Seth Holcombe of Walhalla, Blake Holliday of Belton-Honea Path, Tanner Mack of Wren, Alex Medlin of Seneca, Tyler Miller of Anderson University, Brandon Richeson of Powdersville and Tyler Kirkland of the Anderson Cavaliers.

The host team will again be coached by Gregg Powell and assistants Bobby Youngblood and Todd Freeman.

S.C. District 1 will be joined by five other teams from the United States and five international teams in the tournament, which will kick off July 28 with a new double-elimination format.

The tournament’s championship game, pitting a U.S. team against an international squad, will be broadcast by ESPN at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.
