Business owners opposed to changes to bump officer pay

PICKENS — Pickens officials’ effort to alleviate the problem of not being able to attract or retain qualified police officers was


slowed Monday night as members of the business community responded to a public hearing to stop a proposal that would raise the city’s business license fees by 10 percent to help fund pay range increases for police.

During Pickens City Council’s regular monthly meeting, council voted to table the increase, which would also eliminate the declining rate for gross sales over $1 million for businesses in the city.
