Pickens High teacher renews National Board Certification

PICKENS — Angela Smith Lucas Ed.D., an English teacher at Pickens High School, is one of thousands of teachers across the United States who recently renewed their certification as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).

According to a news release, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is excited to celebrate these teachers, along with the more than 20,000 teachers currently pursuing board certification — seen as the profession’s mark

MasterCare thankful for help

The wedding is planned for December 31 and will be held at Potter’s Clay Fellowship at 5 p.m. Potter’s Clay Fellowship is located at 142 Grace Drive in Easley. Formal invitations will not be sent, but all friends and family are invited to attend.

 

Celtic Christmas set for Saturday at Hagood Mill

PICKENS — The music of the Appalachian region was heavily influenced by the influx of Scotch and Irish immigrants, and this influence has been integral in the development of American folk music traditions.

With Christmas approaching and the New Year beckoning, it is time once again to honor our musical traditions by listening to songs of the season. A local seasonal musical tradition is the Ed Harrison Memorial Celtic Christmas program, to be held at the Heritage Pavilion at the Hagood Mill Historic Site this Saturday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Kay, Parris exchange vows at Windy Hill Barn

Aaron Parris and Christy Kay were united in marriage at noon Dec. 12 at Windy Hill Wedding and Event Barn in Simpsonville.

The Rev. Joey Parris performed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mark and Patti Kay. She graduated from Anderson University in 2016. She is currently a teacher.

The groom is the son of Joey and Cheryl Parris. He graduated from the S.C. Fire Academy in 2016. He is currently a firefighter.

The bride chose Kyla Kay, her sister, as her maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Amanda Walls, Carly Bruner, Erin Reid, Jessica Bass, and Megan Pruitt.

The flower girl was Skylar McDermott.

The groom chose Shawn Parris, his brother, as his best man. Groomsmen were Josh Berryhill, Wade Brooks, JD Segars, Kevin Oldham and Zach Coates. Ring bearers were Bentley Parris, Caleb Richey and Dylan Richey.

After the honeymoon, the couple will reside in Easley.

Dacusville will soon be getting into the Christmas spirit with the annual Christmas tree lighting event and Christmas parade in December. The tree lighting event will be held at 7 p.m Dec. 11 at the old Dacusville school on Earls Bridge Road. The annual Christmas parade will be the next day on Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 2 p.m.

‘Christmas at the Barn’ event raising funds for Happy Hooves

MARIETTA — On Sunday, Dec. 13, Happy Hooves Therapeutic Equestrian Center will be hosting its 17th annual Christmas at the Barn fundraising event at Eden Farms, located at 4700 Dacusville Highway in Marietta.

Dabbs earns national recognition for work for Clemson Extension

CLEMSON — Clemson University Extension Associate Amy Dabbs received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents during the 2020 Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference.

Dabbs, who serves as Statewide School and Community Gardening Coordinator for Clemson Extension, was one of several honorees who represent the top two percent of the membership selected by their peers and the director of Extension.
