Easley robotics team earns spot at Arkansas invitational
EASLEY — A homeschool FIRST Lego League robotics team from Easley, the Thunderbolts, has earned a spot at the FIRST Lego League Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., this May.
The seven-person team of seventh- through ninth-graders won the 
Champion’s Award at the Tri-County Tech regional qualifier in November. Then they advanced to the West State Championship held at Riverside High School in Greer on Dec. 15, where they won second place overall and first place for robot performance out of 37 teams, securing their spot at the Arkansas tournament. FIRST Lego League teams are part of the FIRST organization and compete in FIRST-sponsored intellectual competitions. Capital City Chorale set to performed at performing arts center
LIBERTY — All are invited to enjoy the Capital City Chorale, South Carolina’s Premier African-American Festival Chorus, during this year’s 
Capital City Christmas Concert at the Pickens County Performing Arts Center. The one-night show will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 22.

Central recreation center offering two free weeks
CENTRAL — The Central-Clemson Recreation Center will have two weeks of free membership open to anyone in the community.
The two weeks are Dec. 16-22 and Jan. 6-12.
Guests will be able to take classes, use the weight room, swim and more for free.

Rocky Bottom Baptist honored by blind camp
Rocky Bottom Baptist Church in Sunset was honored at the Christmas dinner Dec. 1 at the Rocky Bottom Camp of the Blind. Rocky Bottom Baptist Church helped with roof repairs on several buildings at the camp. Pastor Chris Owens, left, said of the work, ‘this is part of the local ministry good neighbor policy.” Chairman and president of the State Board of the Blind, Frank Chapple from Columbia recognized the church with a plaque and thanked Frank and Jimmy Masters for their extra volunteer work. The Rocky Bottom Camp and Conference Center is used by the State Foundation of the Blind and open to the public. Linda Bible serves as camp director.
McKinney Chapel Christmas program planned Saturday
SUNSET — The long-ago story of a miracle in a stable in Bethlehem will be told again at McKinney Chapel, in Pickens County’s Eastatoee Valley, this Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.
It’s a traditional gift to everyone who comes to the tiny old church, and everyone is invited.

Post 11 honors council for Veterans Day efforts
During the Dec. 3 Pickens County Council meeting, American Legion Pickens Post 11 gave a “Letter of Appreciation Award” to county council for the very successful recent Veterans Day celebration and parade in Liberty. The event featured Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Davey Hiott, American Legion riders and Pickens Jeep Club members participating to honor county service veterans. Handing the award over to council were Post 11 chaplain Capt. Gary Parsons with fellow Legionnaires Richard Reese, Pete Peters, Randall Wood, Terrance Gromlovits, Michael Keith and Joe Acampora.
