House candidate faces DUI charge after fiery crash

EASLEY — Days before making another run for a seat in the South Carolina State House, Easley resident Allan Quinn was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a fiery crash in Easley last week.

Quinn, of Satterfield Road, was arrested earlier this month by the Easley Police Department and later released on a $997 personal recognizance bond.

Dream Center planning resource fair March 30

EASLEY — An event next week at the Dream Center of Pickens County will allow attendees to learn about a variety of agencies and programs offering assistance to the community.

In the first quarter of each year, the Dream Center hosts a community resource fair.

60 years of marriage

Calvin and Ruth (Hudson) Gilstrap of Liberty celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, March 17.  They were married on March 17, 1962, at the home of the Rev. Lester Collins in Easley. They have two children, Angela (Gilstrap) Bowers and Greg Gilstrap (Joni).  Mr. and Mrs. Gilstrap retired from Pickens County government in 2008 and are enjoying their time by traveling, camping and boating.

Issaqueena Festival scheduled in May

SIX MILE ­— Organizers of the annual Issaqueena Festival expect mild weather with lots of tasty food, craft vendors, kids’ games and activities, along with live music at this year’s family-oriented event on Saturday, May 21.

County unemployment rate increases slightly

COLUMBIA — The unemployment rate in Pickens County went up slightly during the month of January, state officials said in a jobs report released earlier this month.

The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) reported that unemployment rose two tenths of a percentage point from 2.9 percent in December to 3.1 percent in January.
