Easley can use ARPA funds to reimburse general fund

EASLEY — Easley City Council can use federal dollars to reimburse the city’s general fund for pay related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials discussed the issue during council’s Feb. 14 meeting.

Clemson rep introduces new animal cruelty bill

Legislation would stiffen penalties on pet abusers

CLEMSON — A bill introduced by State Rep. Jerry Carter of Clemson and co-sponsored by six fellow legislators — including State Rep. Bill Sandifer of Seneca and State Rep. Bill Whitmire of Walhalla — is designed to put more teeth into punishing people who abuse their pets.

Bowick, Dykes receive Quilts of Valor

EASLEY — Veterans Dr. Hubert Bowick and Kent Dykes were awarded prestigious Quilts of Valor at the American Legion Post 52 meeting on Feb. 22.

Scout canned food drive helps feed those in need

The annual Boy Scout community canned food drive on March 5 was a great success with more than 2,348 items collected and donated to the Gleaning House Food Pantry. The event was sponsored by Scout Troop 51 and Cub Scout Pack 51 and held at the Pickens Amphitheater. Organizations participating in this year’s event were Griffin Ebenezer Baptist Church, Smith Chapel, Pickens Garden Club and Grace United Methodist Church. Missing man’s body found in Lake Hartwell

SENECA — The S.C. Department of Natural Resources found the body of a missing Clemson 21-year-old in Lake Hartwell on Sunday morning, according to officials.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said Andruw Noel Earnhardt’s body was found around 10 a.m. in a cove near the U.S. Highway 123 bridge connecting Seneca and Clemson at the nearby railroad trestle.

Administrator updates county paving projects

COUNTY — At the beginning of 2022, county administrator Ken Roper told Pickens County Council that residents would see paving projects begin as early as this spring.
