Garrett named new principal at Liberty

LIBERTY — After Liberty High School principal Josh Oxendine was chosen to fill the same post at Easley High last month, it didn’t take long for School District of Pickens County officials to find Oxendine’s successor at LHS.

On Monday night, the Pickens County School Board approved SDPC superintendent Danny Merck’s recommendation to hire Johnny Garrett as the next principal at Liberty High, beginning July 1.

Garrett is currently an assistant principal at Easley High, where Oxendine will take over as principal at the end of the 2021-22 school

County working to help pastor restore stockade for ex-inmates

Clemson man shot to death

CLEMSON — Clemson police are continuing to investigate a shooting that left a 24-year-old man dead at an apartment complex early Saturday morning.

A 911 call came in at 1 a.m. Saturday that a white man was “possibly shot and lying on the ground in the Village Green Apartment Complex,” at 1108 Tiger Boulevard, according to a Clemson Police Department news release.

Family pleads for help to find missing man

PICKENS — A Pickens family is asking for the community’s help in finding a loved one reported missing earlier this month.

Boyce Anthony “B.A.” Morris Jr. left his home on Reece Mill Road around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 on foot, not wearing shoes and without clothes that would aid and protect him in the elements. At the time of his disappearance, Morris had been sick and not been feeling well, according to his mother, Lynn Morris.

Wreck claims Easley man’s life

LIBERTY — A 27-year-old Easley man died after a single-car wreck last week.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the victim as Richard Holcombe Jr., of Raines Road.

Clemson updates campus mask rules

CLEMSON — Clemson University has changed its face mask requirements once again — lifting a mask mandate for most of campus.

As of Monday, masks were not required in university facilities except on public transportation, in medical facilities and testing sites and in the school’s municipal court, per federal and state requirements.
