Company plans $5.3M Easley investment, 25 new positions

EASLEY — Sulzer Pump Solutions Inc. announced last week that it will be investing more than $5 million to expand its Pickens County
operations.

Wreck claims Easley woman
EASLEY — An elderly woman died Thursday afternoon following a two-car collision.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the victim as Margaret Omega Kelley, 82, of Cedar Rock Church Road in Easley.
The collision occurred at 12:40 p.m. Thursday on S.C. Highway 8 near Rice Road, 1.5 miles east of Easley, according to South Carolina

Central passes first reading of budget with increases in rates and salaries

Stovall speaks to Rotary
Miss Easley 2023 Alli Stovall had the pleasure of speaking at the Easley Rotary Club on May 9. Stovall lives in Charleston, where she attends Charleston Southern University. She has been a great representative pf Easley after being crowned in November 2022. She started her own nonprofit organization, “Armor Of Knowledge,” helping youth understand areas of life and knowing their self worth. She also wrote her first book “Seeing Red,” which will be on sale soon. Stovall will compete this June 20-24 for the title of Miss South Carolina at the Township Auditorium in Columbia.
Fleet Reserve helps with fishing rodeo
Eight shipmates from Fleet Reserve Branch 015 assisted at the DNR Youth Fishing Rodeo on May 13 at the Piedmont Tree Nursery. Chick-fil-A donated 300 chicken sandwiches. Cans of soda, bags of chips and ice cream sandwiches were donated from other sources. FRA members assembled the meals so they were ready for the young people and their parents when they were done fishing. Above left is a photo of the prizes awarded. Public meeting this week on development standards

COUNTY — A public meeting will be held this week to discuss proposed updates to the county’s Unified Development Standards Ordinance.
The meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley.
County administrator Ken Roper discussed the meeting during a Facebook Live video posted Friday.
“This public meeting is about the challenges of growth that we’re seeing in Pickens County,” he said. “It’s no secret that we’re dealing with requests, day after day on the county side, for new houses, new apartments, new developments. The cities here in the county are seeing it as well.”

Man charged with murder in Easley shooting

EASLEY — A 20-year-old man is charged with murder after a shooting in Easley on Thursday night.
According to a release from Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chuck James, the agency received a report at 9:38 p.m. Thursday
that someone had been shot in the 300 block of Jericho Ridge Trail.
