Pickens councilman Nealy resigns

PICKENS — The longest-tenured member of Pickens City Council announced his resignation on Tuesday, saying the city is “on a course that I no longer wish to be a part of.”

New Appalachian true crime book features local connections
PICKENS — A retired Western North Carolina police detective and a self-described Upstate South Carolina “armchair detective” and hobby historian have joined forces to produce a new book filled with historic true crime tales based in the hills and hollers of the Appalachian Mountains, including a pair with Pickens County connections.
“Blood on the Blue Ridge” revisits a variety of crimes that happened
over a nearly 200-year period and even dispels some myths that have been passed down through the ages, with stories from both North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
The book’s 15 chapters recount stories of moonshiners, manhunts, murders, train robberies, a rare book heist at Biltmore House and a random killer who terrorized South Carolina.

Six Mile nature walk project earns statewide recognition

SIX MILE — The town of Six Mile recently earned “the Stanley Cup” of South Carolina municipal awards.
Town officials recently learned the Bryson Children’s Nature Walk had earned an Achievement Award from the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC).
The award was officially presented to the town during the State of Six Mile event at Town Hall on Thursday.

District 1 fighting to stay alive at SLWS

EASLEY — Entering the midpoint of the Senior League World Series, local representative S.C. District 1 is still alive and fighting for a chance at the crown.
The host squad opened the tournament on Saturday taking on U.S. Central representative Burbank American Little League, of Burbank, Ill. District 1 fell behind early, but that didn’t stop District 1 from taking down the U.S. Central
Burbank American Little League, of Burbank, Ill., in close 6-4 battle.
District 1 found itself trailing early against Burbank with the Central champions picking up two first inning runs off starting pitcher Walker Cox to take the lead.
Cox didn’t let the early runs affect him keeping Burbank off the board over the next three innings, while the District 1bats looked to find their footing.
