LIBERTY — With their playoff push in full swing, the Liberty Red Devils got off to an ugly start against the Greenville Tech Eagles last week.

Leading just 23-19 against the 1-10 Eagles, Liberty head coach Jonathan Dilworth was hoping his players would respond to their less-than-ideal start.

“We got into them at halftime,” Dilworth said. “We told them at halftime that we had to

“It wasn’t quite as good as we played against Ninety Six, but we played better defensively,” Liberty head coach Gregg Thomas said. “Offensively, we struggled

PICKENS — The Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame girls’ basketball team defeated region foe Travelers Rest last week, but lost to cross-county region rival Easley.

“This was another big learning week for us,” Pickens coach Rikki Owens said. “We saw the grit developed from losing close games help us to pull ahead and win against Travelers Rest. We underperformed against Easley, but every loss is a learning experience and helps

CENTRAL — Coming off a heartbreaking region loss to Wren, the Daniel High School boys’ basketball team responded with a whistle-to-whistle 65-37 pounding of Pendleton last week.

“This group is a resilient group that bounces back quickly,” Daniel head coach Ben Touchberry said after the Jan. 25 game. “They showed a relentless pursuit defensively, and it generated a lot of easy opportunities on the offensive end.”

The Lions’ bounceback was fronted by star point guard Bobby Taylor, who said his mentality was to go for the throat coming off the close loss to Wren.

Taylor did just that, putting up 23 points on a variety of looks, including four three-pointers as he led the Lions in scoring.

Taylor’s shot making also opened things up for seniors Caleb Owens and Jahiem Lawson, who

CENTRAL — After taking a 6-4 lead midway through the first quarter, the Daniel High School girls’ basketball team never trailed again against Pendleton last week, and despite it being a little too close for comfort at the end, Daniel head coach Cosandar Griffin was proud of her team’s fight in the 47-43 win.

“I’m just proud of the way the girls came out and fought today,” Griffin said after the Jan. 25 game. “We’ve been battling adversity, and I was glad to see they stepped up for the challenge today.”

On the offensive end it wasn’t the easiest day for the Lions, as leading scorer Destiny Hoover

CENTRAL — When he received his offer from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney in December, Jahiem Lawson felt fairly confident he had found his collegiate home.

But, wanting to do his due diligence, the Daniel High School senior wanted to get on campus for his official visit before making a final decision.

His visit last month cleared any remaining doubts he may have had, and on Friday he followed in the footsteps of his brother — and a few other prominent Daniel defensive linemen from years past — in committing to play his college football at Clemson. He will sign with the Tigers on National Signing Day this Wednesday.

“I kind of knew (when I was offered), but I wanted to see, so on my official visit, that’s when it really happened,” Lawson said Friday evening. “They brought me in, and it felt like family as soon as I got there.

“It feels amazing. I think it’s a really big opportunity for me to go play for one of the best colleges in the country, so I’m

The Green Wave cut into the lead as the first half wore on, but still trailed 21-16 going into halftime, before a huge third quarter run gave them a lead heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, the Blue Flame fought hard to come back, but missed opportunities at the free
