Daniel drops Pickens in five innings

CENTRAL — In a battle of county foes, the Pickens High School baseball team travelled to Daniel on Thursday night to take on the Lions.

Stone named DWD football coach

CENTRAL — One day after sources indicated to the Courier that Walhalla High School head football coach Chris Stone was set to take the head coaching job at Daniel High 
School, the School District of Pickens County made the hire official Wednesday morning.
In a quick turnaround, Stone had his first chance to meet with the public Wednesday night in the school’s gym. There, he laid out his vision for Daniel football after two successful seasons leading the Razorbacks.

Lions sweep county track meet

LIBERTY — With a little over a month to go until state qualifiers, Pickens County’s four public high schools took to the track at Liberty High School on April 1 for the Pickens County Track and Field Championships.
On a day that saw eight county championship records broken, Daniel High School reigned supreme, taking first in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
Boasting a meet-high nine county champions, the Daniel girls fit the billing of a state championship contender after a runner-up finish in Class 3A last season.

CENRAL — The School District of Pickens County Board of Trustees has approved the selection of Chris Stone as the next Head Football Coach of D.W. Daniel High School.
NEW DW DANIEL HEAD FOOTBALL COACH CHIS STONE
Stone brings a combination of leadership, coaching expertise, and passion for community-centered athletics. A graduate of Eastside High School and varsity football player at the collegiate level at Clemson University and Furman University, Stone has most recently served as the Head Football Coach and CATE teacher at Walhalla High School. In 2024, he was named All-Mountain Lakes Coach of the Year after leadingWalhalla to several h Stone’s coaching career reflects varied experience at the varsity and junior varsity levels, as well as on both sides of the ball. His previous roles include:
- Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Mauldin High School (2019-2023)
- Offensive Coordinator at Easley High School (2016-2019)
- Defensive Assistant at Mauldin High earlier in his career
- Coordinator experience coaching quarterbacks, wide receivers, defensive backs, and outside linebackers

Lions overcome first half deficit to take down Berea

CENTRAL — Coming off two huge spring break wins over Lucy Beckham and Bishop England, the Daniel High School boys’ soccer team returned to region play on Tuesday night against the Berea Bulldogs.
Daniel came out slow, falling behind 2-1 at the half. Even with their 47-game region winning streak in danger, the Lions remained confident.

Wave fall to Science Hill in spring break battle
The Easley High School baseball team hosted Science Hill of Johnson City, Tenn. on Friday. After falling behind big in the third inning, the Green Wave rallied in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to cut the Science Hill lead to 9-8. However, the Easley comeback came up short as the Hilltoppers pulled out a 10-8 win.
