CENTRAL — Facing an early 3-0 deficit through one quarter, the Daniel Lions seemed to have finally met their match against defending Class 4A state champion Wren on Friday night.

Coupling the early deficit with the fact that Daniel was without starting quarterback Jackson Crosby, it seemed like it could be a long night for the Lions.

However, the Daniel defense put on an almost perfect showing the rest of the way and junior quarterback Trent Pearman found his footing in the second half, leading the Lions to a dominant 30-10 win over the Hurricanes.

The Daniel defense continued to prove to be one of the best and most opportunistic in the state, getting its third pick-six in as many weeks. In the

EASLEY — The 2020 Easley-Pickens football game was one for the ages and will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be there.

Pickens got a 20-yard field goal late in the game and held on as an Easley field goal went wide left at the buzzer in a thrilling 38-37 homecoming game at Bill Carr Stadium on Thursday night.

The Pickens win was the Blue Flame’s first in the rivalry since 2010.

“Great game, great rivalry game right there,” Easley coach Jordan Durrah said. “It’s kind of what you expect when you come out and watch Easley and Pickens.”

The game had it all — several lead changes, both teams recording a safety on defense and above all, several

LIBERTY — After a two-week delay to the start of the season because of COVID-19 protocols, the Liberty High School football team finally made its 2020 debut under the lights at Red Devil Stadium on Friday night.

In a Senior Night contest against the Ninety Six Wildcats, Liberty came within one yard of opening the season with a victory in a 14-12 loss.

Sporting their new red helmets, the Devils battled Ninety Six all night and held a 12-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter before a late Wildcat touchdown put them behind the eight ball.

With just 2:53 left in the game, Liberty was tasked with taking the ball 71 yards to come away with the win. After making it the first 70, the Red Devils were held out twice at the

CLEMSON — The first top-10 clash at Memorial Stadium in more than four years turned into a defensive clinic from Clemson on Saturday night.

The top-ranked Tigers (4-0, 3-0) won 42-17 to remain unbeaten while holding the seventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes (3-1, 2-1) to only 210 total yards on offense in the pouring rain.

“It was good to see the guys have a good week of practice and bring it into the game,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said. “We had a great plan and we felt really good about it.”

The opening drive of the night lasted 10 plays as the Tigers moved steadily down the field. Senior wide receiver Amari Rodgers caught passes on the first three

PENDLETON — Questions abounded for the Daniel High School football team this season after having to replace one of the best senior classes in recent memory.

However, expectations remained high heading into the season, and a lopsided win over Seneca in the season opener set a high bar for the Lions. The follow-up, a 55-7 drumming of Pendleton at Cunningham Stadium on Friday night, showed the Lions may be among the top teams in Class 3A.

“Last year we had a great group,” Daniel receiver Josiah Benson said. “We know we’re great this year, too. We practice hard, and we’re just
