Celtic Christmas is this weekend at Hagood Mill Heritage Pavilion

PICKENS — The Hagood Mill Historic Site invites everyone to gather and celebrate the joy of the season at the Ed Harrison Memorial Celtic Christmas, a cherished Upstate holiday tradition honoring the Celtic roots of Appalachian music. The event will take place on Saturday, December 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the beautiful Heritage Pavilion on the Hagood Mill grounds.

A Celebration of Celtic and Appalachian Heritage

The musical traditions of the Appalachian Mountains owe much to the Scotch and Irish immigrants whose songs and instruments helped shape the American folk sound. Each December, Hagood Mill celebrates this enduring legacy with a day of live Celtic and traditional Appalachian music, storytelling, and holiday spirit.
This year’s festival features an outstanding lineup of performers, including:
Madeline Dierhauf and Friends – Known for rich harmonies and spirited performances, this talented ensemble brings a heartfelt blend of traditional and contemporary folk.
Buzzy and Mike (Elizabeth Adams & Michael Ellison) – A beloved duo with more than 30 years of musical collaboration, offering warm harmonies and timeless charm.
Goers and Allen (Marshall Goers and Lucy Allen) – An acoustic pair whose deep love for roots music shines through every performance.
The Fenians – Featuring Richard Beard (host of Celtic Winds on WNCW), Alan Dilman, and Jessica Paull, this group embodies the spirit of Celtic tradition with pipes, strings, and heartfelt vocals.
Drop O’ the Pure – A high-energy Celtic band delivering authentic Irish folk tunes, reels, and lively jigs.
Greenville Pipes and Drums – Members of this acclaimed group will perform throughout the day, sharing the stirring sounds of traditional Scottish bagpipes.
Sweet Potato Pie Kids – Talented young musicians from the YAM program, bringing joyful Appalachian music to the holiday stage.
Folk Arts, Grinding Grits, and Holiday Shopping
In addition to live entertainment, Hagood Mill will be bustling with folklife demonstrations, artisan vendors, and holiday shopping opportunities.
The historic water-powered gristmill will be running, producing the ever-popular holiday grits, while artists and crafters display traditional skills including blacksmithing, weaving, pottery, and more.
