Canning is a practical, safe and enjoyable method of food preservation when done properly. Participants in an upcoming workshop in Pickens will be able to engage in the full canning process from preparation to processing using current USDA recommended techniques.
The workshop will highlight pressure canning, and participants will take home a jar of the product they produced. Anyone with or without previous canning experience is encouraged to attend. Cost is $35 per person. The workshop will be held at the Pickens County Extension Office at 222 W. Main St. from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, March 31. Contact Alex Thompson at (864) 365-0628 or art6@clemson.edu to register.

• Pinewood Derby set for Doodle Pavilion

Cub Scout Pack 51 is inviting all area first responders to participate in the annual Pinewood Derby competition, which has a new location this year.
Emergency officials’ attendance will give Cub Scouts an opportunity to meet and engage with local first responders while enjoying a fun event. Previously planned at the Pickens Amphitheater, the event will instead be held at 10 a.m. April 1 at the Doodle Pavilion in Pickens.
