Coroner: Two dead in murder-suicide

EASLEY — Police are still investigating the deaths of two people in Easley on Monday in what coroner Kandy Kelley called a murder-suicide.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Department was called to a home on Red Oak Court on Monday in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived they found the bodies of Jeffrey Scott Carroll, 49, and Kelly Denise Metcalf, 42, lying in a bed at the home the couple shared.
Kelley said both died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
According to official PCSO reports, when deputies arrived they were met by the daughter of Metcalf, who deputies say was at the scene with her husband and her brother.
The report said that the three were there to check on Metcalf. The daughter said that her grandfather had asked them to stop and check on the couple because he could not reach them.
Deputies say the daughter told them when she could not get an answer from knocking, she got the hide-a-way key and entered the home. She told officers she had found her mother and Carroll lying in bed covered in blood and unresponsive. She then called 911.
Deputies were also told the couple was not married, but had been together for several years. The report said Metcalf’s daughter told deputies the two had recently broken up and she had moved back in the last week or two.
Although the case is under investigation, no charges have been filled and deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said that they do not believe other residents in the area are in danger.
