Ruth E. Morris

Pickens — Ruth Ellen Coleman Morris, 80, widow of George Edward Morris, died Monday, July 15, 2013.

Mrs. Morris was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Fred and Bertha McKinna Coleman. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Sue O’Shields (Wayne) of Sunset, Jennifer Kay Goff (Robert) of Pumpkintown and Jacqueline Ann Richards (Ed) of Greer. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and sisters, Wilma Gillespie and Betty Bowie both of Pickens.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her sons, George E. “Eddie” Morris, Jr. and Robert Fred Morris, sister, Sophia Pace and a brother James Coleman.

Funeral services were conducted 4 p.m. Thursday, July 18 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial was at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

JAMES “BUD” STEWART

PIEDMONT — James Wesley “Bud” Stewart, 73, of Piedmont, husband of Elaine Burrell Stewart, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Brevard, N.C.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Joe and Eliza Bishop Stewart. He retired from BP Amoco and was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Rhonda Buckhiester (Daniel), of Pickens; sons, J. Michael Stewart, of Piedmont, and Paul A. Stewart, of Greenville; sisters, Jeanette Creswell, Doris Wallace and Peggy Surratt; special niece, Sue Hollingsworth; and granddaughter, Danielle Elaine Buckhiester.

The funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday, July 19 at Piedmont United Methodist Church.

Sarah Hardy

Liberty — Sarah Mae Lyda Hardy, 73, wife of Kenneth Lee Hardy, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Jim and Oma Elizabeth Leopard Lyda, Mrs. Hardy retired from textiles and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 58 years, are two daughters, Pamela H. Summey and her fiance’ David Dobson, and Denise H. Parker and her husband Thomas; one sister, Doris Reeves of Greenville; grandchildren, Daniel and (Kerri) Summey, Brittany H. (James) Lang, Johnny Moffitt, Madison P. (Joseph) McKenzie, and Morgan Parker; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Conner Moffitt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardy was predeceased by seven brothers, James, Clarence, Edward, J.B., Kenneth, Gerald, and Wallace Lyda; and one sister, Ruby Rollins. 

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Friday, July 19 at the M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Will Horn

Six Mile — James William Keith “Will” Horn, 18, of 132 Griggs Road died Monday evening from injuries sustained in an accident.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Angel Fox of the home and James Fox of Six Mile and Keith and Ashley Horn of Anderson. He was a 2013 graduate of Daniel High School and worked at Ingles in Clemson. He enjoyed spending his time gardening, fishing, riding motorcycles and loved animals of all sorts. He was a member of Mile Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents and step parents are two sisters, Kaitlyn and Allison Fox of the home; a brother, Ashton Horn of Anderson; grandparents, James and Rebecca Burrell of Liberty, Willie Mae Horn of Pickens and Jamie and Victor Fox of Liberty; aunts and uncles, Dale and Addie Burrell and Jason and Shannon Donald; also many other aunts uncles cousins and friends.

Funeral services to honor Will’s life were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mile Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Paul Evans

Six Mile — David Paul Evans, 53, of Six Mile, died on Friday, July 19, 2013 at his home.

Paul was born in Oconee County a son of Hazel Fannie Campbell Evans of Six mile and the late Amos Clifton Evans. He was a member of Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy. Paul loved to work in the garden and also loved music and swimming.

Survivors include his mother, of the home, daughter Ashley Marie Broome of Easley, grandson, Aaron Broome, brothers, Clifton Evans of Seneca, Wayne Evans (Kathy) of Six Mile and Stephen Evans (Elian) of Liberty and sisters, Rachel Goss (Roger), Janice Young (Bryan) and Shannon Arnold (Jonathan) all of Six Mile.

Funeral service was conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at the Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Charles Sutherland, Sr.

 Easley — Charles Newton Sutherland, Sr., 75, husband of Mary Frances Bridges Sutherland died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Clyde Cleveland and Annie Mae Rackley Sutherland. He retired from textiles and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sutherland was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War Era.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Charles Newton Sutherland, Jr., and wife Pam of Piedmont; a brother, Carlyle Sutherland of Easley; two sisters, Edna Mae King of Easley and Edith Shipman of Greenville.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Cecil, Carl and Chester Sutherland.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Willie Thomas Evatt, Jr.

 Easley — Mr. Willie Thomas “Tommy” Evatt, Jr., 67, of Foster Drive, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Willie Thomas Evatt, Sr. and the late Allene Brooks Evatt, Tommy was a graduate of Clemson University and retired as sales manager with Vulcan Materials after 37 years service. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Marines Reserves.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Baughman (Kevin) of Windham, Maine and Julie Evatt of Easley; two brothers, James Evatt (Sheryl) of Liberty, and Donnie Evatt (Becky) of Easley; a sister, Nancy Anderson (Jim) of Pickens; two grandsons, Justin Black and Scott Anderson; and a great-granddaughter, Josie Anderson.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Doug Goss officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Corrie Youngblood

Easley — Corrie Sue Kirk Youngblood, 90, of 103 Ellenburg Drive, wife of the late Thomas Elbert Youngblood, Sr., died Friday, July 19, 2013 at her home.

Born in Madison County, Ga., a daughter of the late Simeon Gale and Lilla Mae McCarty Kirk, Mrs. Youngblood retired from Swril, Inc. and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church where she belonged to the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son, Tommy Youngblood, Jr., of Easley; two daughters, Sherry Bracken Krieg of Brunswick, Ga. and Debbie Day Horstmann (George) of North Port, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Youngblood was predeceased by two brothers, Benjamin D. Kirk and Donald H. Kirk and by four sisters, Fairy Belle Powell, Mary Ardelle Gilstrap, Barbara Lou Pearson and Avanelle Kirk.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Rodney Graham and the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Sam Allison

Pickens — Samuel Kay “Sam” Allison, 62, husband of Dorothy Edens Allison, died, Saturday July 20, 2013.

Sam was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Ernest Theodore and Harriett Christine Carson Allison. He was employed with Imperial Die Casting and was formerly employed with The Singer Co. and later with Ryobi Motor Products. Sam, along with his wife, was founding members of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens. He loved flowers, gardening and working in his yard.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Dorothy, of the home, his son, Samuel Scott Allison (Jennifer) of Easley, his daughter, Joyce Ann Allison of the home and grandson, Nathan Scott Allison.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at Northside Baptist Church with The Rev. Mark Kreiger officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Frances Hawkins

Liberty — Frances Roper Hawkins, 74, of 302 Old Norris Road, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at her home.

Born in Gainesville, Ga. she was the widow of Horace Hawkins and a daughter of the late Elbert V. and Viola Chapman Roper. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Jane Leopard (Randy) of Liberty; a son, Russell Hawkins of Liberty; a sister, Judy Patterson; four brothers, Garnett, Doyle, Delmar, and John Roper; two grandchildren, Lily Leopard and Thomas Hawkins, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to honor Mrs. Hawkins life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pickens.

Joann Clark

Six Mile — Hazel Joann Clark, 77, of 134 Little Crowe Creek Road, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at her home.

Born in Pickens she was the widow of Ernest Junior Clark and a daughter of the late Arthur and Artie Mae Young Kelly. She was retired from Harvey’s Love & Care, and was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Patsey Powell of the home, and Judy Hunter of Liberty; two sons, Danny Clark of Six Mile and Elvis Clark of Pickens; five sisters and one brother; five grandchildren, William and Natasha Clark, Kimberly Hunter, and Lyndsey and Jerad Clark; one great grandchild, Koah Nicholson.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Clark were 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gap Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Oneal Chapman

Liberty — Oneal Chapman, 87, of Liberty, died Saturday July 20, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Chapman was born in Pickens County, a son of the late L. K. and Ressie Finley Chapman, and husband of the late Hazel Bolding Chapman. He was a retired as a self employed carpenter and a member of Winding Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Marty, Perry and Jerry Chapman of Liberty and Glenn Chapman of Six Mile; two daughters, Cynthia Chapman of Liberty and Lynn Kelly of Six Mile; one brother, Harvey Chapman; three sisters, Linda Kelly, Ann Ramey, and Janice Chapman; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in Abbott Cemetery.

Central — Sylvia Dorine Barton Craig, 30, of Central, died Thursday, July 18, 2013.

Mrs. Craig was the wife of Joshua Scott Craig, and daughter of Carroll Huston Barton of Dacusville and Wanda Miller Bagwell and step-father Wade Brackett of Central.

In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by sons; Joseph Scott Barton, Joshua Levi Craig, and Landon Walker Craig; step daughters, Kayla Marie Chandler and Alexis Leann Chandler; brothers, David, Kenneth, and Bradley Barton; sisters, Angie Greenwood, Tammy Stokes, Cynthia Blair, Ashley Bruce, and Allison Brackett; grandparents Ray and Linda Moore.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Monday, July 22 at Six Mile Church of God of Prophesy. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Easley — Ellen Nealey Peek, 84, of Crest Court, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at her home.

Born in Pickens, a daughter of the late George and Nettie Porter Nealey, Mrs. Peek was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church where she belonged to the Sarah Smith Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her husband, Robert W. Peek of the home; a son, Robin Peek of Pickens; a daughter, Sandra Chase (Scott) of Clemson; five grandchildren, Chad Smith, Justin Smith, Corey Peek, Darren Peek (Casey) and Ras Peek; and a great-granddaughter, Haley Peek.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peek was predeceased by three brothers.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Grady N. Smith

Pickens — Grady N. Smith, 88, of Mountain Estates Road, husband of Lois Nicholson Smith, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Reuben Luther and Asia Malinda Holder Smith, Mr. Smith retired from Duke Power and was of the Baptist faith. He loved reading his Bible, gardening, and raising chickens and beagles.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 63 years are, two sons, Stanley and Steve Smith; five daughters, Gennis Kelly (Hal), Wanda Smith, Betty Campbell (Tim), Jean Crawford, Lee Hunter (Eddie); two sisters, Mildred Dobson and Ersle Reid; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one due in August, and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, RC Smith, a sister, Gertrude Evatt, a granddaughter, Amanda Whitaker, and a son-in-law, Valley Crawford.

Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Gap Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Geneva Campbell

Pickens — Geneva Mae Goodwin Campbell, 84, of 716 E. Cedar Rock Street, formerly of Liberty, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Manna Health & Rehab.

Born in Greenville she was the widow of George R. Campbell, Jr. and a daughter of the late James D. and Olivia Mahaffey Goodwin. She was a member of Liberty First Baptist Church, and the Bible Study Class. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, James Moore and his wife Janice of Liberty, and George Thomas Campbell of Fountain Inn; a niece, Glenda Alexander and her husband Doug of Pickens; a sister, Frances Capps of Columbia; a sister in law, Elizabeth Goodwin of Easley; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death three brothers, Clyde, J.P., and Rob Goodwin and a sister, Geraldine Goodwin.

Funeral services to honor Mrs. Campbell’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
