RODNEY EDREW  ‘CHUBBY’ HENDRICKS

SIX MILE — Rodney Edrew “Chubby” Hendricks, 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his home.

Born March 25, 1959, in Anderson County, Chubby was the son of the late James Edrew Hendricks and Helen Edna Towe Hendricks. He enjoyed fishing for anything that would bite, playing his guitar and singing.

Survivors include his daughter, Shannon Carlisle (Matthew) of Liberty; grandchildren, Kinlee Ann and Karsyn; stepmother, Shirley Cox Hendricks; siblings, Eddie Wade (April) of Liberty, Suzanne Edwards (Terry) of Seneca and Kayla Freeman (Jay) of Easley; and several loving nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

RICHARD ALEXANDER YATES

LIBERTY — Richard Alexander Yates, 56, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his home.

Born Dec. 20, 1967, in Pickens County, Richardwas the son of Charles Douglas Yates and Judy Yates Parris. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Christie Yates of the home; a son, Shawn Yates of Pickens; grandchildren, Bryson Yates, Kyler Yates and Kolsten Yates; two sisters, Candi Yates and Robin Smith (Douglas); two nephews, Austin Yates and Ashton Stutz; and a niece, Regan Gregory.

A memorial service was  held March 13 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard’s honor may be made to Mountain Grove Baptist Church, 644 E Preston McDaniel Road, Pickens, SC 29671.

DORTHA GAIL WILSON

SIX MILE — Dortha Gail Wilson, 69, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Dortha was born in Oconee County to the late Paul and Evelyn Woodall. Every weekend you could find Dortha at Cotton Eyed Joe’s, faithfully dancing.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Crenshaw (Scott) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Jeremy Gantt, Justin Gantt and Matthew Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Rylee Gantt, Raven Gantt, Kristina Gantt and Elias Gantt; and two brothers, Dennis Woodall of Six Mile and Russell Woodall of Six Mile.

Dortha was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ronnie Howard; her second husband, Jerome Wilson; and three brothers, Paul Woodall Jr., Charles Woodall and Allen Woodall.

AUSTIN PERRY CATER

PICKENS — Austin Perry Cater, 83, loving husband of 63 years to Joanne Kinsey Cater, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born March 7, 1940, in Pickens County, Austin was the son of the late William C. Cater and Velma Parrott Cater. He enjoyed watching westerns and Adam-12 and sitting on the porch. He loved fishing and bear hunting and was a Clemson football fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Kinsey Cater of the home; a daughter, Shana Cole of Pickens; grandchildren, Katelyn Cole and Jayden Chappell; a sister, Ferra Porter; and several loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cater was predeceased by two brothers, Earnest Cater and Fletcher Cater; and five sisters, Flora Jones, Geneva Cater, Roberta Hall, Genell Crowe and Alma Riggins.

A memorial service was held on March 12 in the sanctuary of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Pickens.

TERRY WOOD

EASLEY — With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Terry Lamarr Wood, a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Born in Greenville on May 6, 1947, he peacefully passed away on March 7, 2024, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson surrounded by his family.

He was known for his strong work ethic and pursued a career as an engineer in the laundry industry, dedicating his days to AmeriPride Services. He took pride in his service to the country, serving in the U.S. Army National Guard from Aug. 15, 1966, until his discharge on April 10, 1972, achieving the rank of Specialist.

Graduating from Easley High School in 1965, Terry was not just a hardworking professional, but also a dedicated family man. When not at work, Terry could be found on the golf course or out fishing, embracing the calming outdoors. Known for his gentle spirit and playful nature, Terry adored spending time with his grandsons, creating lasting memories and bonds that will live on in their hearts forever.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jenette G. Wood of the home; a daughter, Rhonda Wilson (Scott) of Easley; and two grandsons, Taylor Wilson and Ryan Wilson.

A visitation to honor and remember Terry’s life was held at Liberty Mortuary on March 11.

As we grieve his loss, let us remember Terry for the joy and love he brought to our lives. May his legacy of hard work, devotion and cherished family moments continue to inspire us all.

ROY JOHNSON

EASLEY — Mr. Roy Lynch Johnson, husband of the late Martha Howe Johnson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 8, 2024.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Thomas Johnson and the late Leona Allison Johnson.

Mr. Johnson received his associate degree in HVAC from Greenville Technical College and retired as a district maintenance supervisor with Winn-Dixie with 40 years of service. He lived his life to follow Jesus, dedicating close to 40 years of service at Jones Avenue Baptist Church. He served our nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an active member of the Masons for more than 50 years. An IPTAY member since 1964, he was a die-hard Clemson fan.

Surviving are his son, Roy Lee Johnson (Miriam) of Easley; his three daughters, Rita Faye Burke (Tim) of Pickens, Shelia Cleveland (Novie) of Honea Path and Tammy Olivares of Easley; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on March 11 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

MARVIN ALLEN CHAVIS

EASLEY — Marvin Allen Chavis, 76, loving husband to the late Teresa Evans Chavis, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born Aug. 4, 1947, in Pembroke, N.C., Marvin was the son of the late Hartman Chavis and Letha Hardin Chavis. Mr. Chavis worked in commercial construction as a pipe fitter. He loved to sit outside, play his guitar and listen to music. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors include his children, Nathan Chavis (Micheala) of Greenville, Raymond Chavis of Easley and Joshua Chavis of Easley; grandchildren, Levi, Lexi and Zoey; and siblings, Naomi Merck, William Chavis and Cindy Lewis.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Chavis was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Martin and Helen Raxter; and a brother, Hartman “Buddy” Chavis Jr.

VIRGINIA S. WILSON

EASLEY — Mrs. Virginia Setser Wilson, wife of the late Rev. James Madison Wilson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Born in Franklin, N.C., a daughter of the late Gilmer Jacob Setser and the late Nina Ray Setser, Mrs. Wilson received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the East Tennessee Baptist School of Nursing and spent the majority of her life serving her Lord and Savior as a pastor’s wife. She attended Faith Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving are her son, James “Jim” Edward Wilson (Chris) of Easley; her daughter, Elaine Wilson Vaughn (Mitch) of Easley; a brother, Richard Setser (Faye) of Valdosta, Ga.; a sister, Anna House of Naples, Fla.; her eight grandchildren, Karen V. Wood (Cassidy), Gilyen W. Vaughn (Alex), Nicole N. Vaughn, Jayda D. Vaughn, Lyndsey W. Emmons (Charlie), Caroline W. Tate (Camden), Claire A. Wilson and James David Wilson; and her five great-grandchildren, Colton Wood, Tucker Wood, Elaine R. Vaughn, Grady Wilson Tate and Harvey Wilson Vaughn.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by one brother, Edwin Setser; and four sisters, Mary Setser, Agnes Hunton, Grace Harrison and Helen Gent.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. A private burial will follow in the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

CIELO POOL

EASLEY — Cielo Tascon Pool, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 5, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Colombia, South America, she was a daughter of the late Napoleon Tascon Sr. and the late Blanca Mejia Tascon. Cielo received her associate degree from Indian River Community College in Florida and retired from Prisma Health.

She was a member of Easley Church of God, where she thoroughly enjoyed the senior group.

Surviving are her daughter, Danielle R. Watson (George) of Easley; her two brothers, Napoleon Tascon Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Tulio Enrique Tascon of Colombia, South America; her sister, Luz Marina Tascon of California; her two grandchildren, Skyler Watson and Haley Watson; her step-granddaughter, Samantha Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will host a memorial service at a later date.

WALLACE F. BROWNING

EASLEY — Mr. Wallace Frank Browning, 92, husband of Sybil Cantrell Browning, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, March 8, 2024.

Born in Pickens County he was the son of the late Claude Browning and the late Etha Gray Browning. Mr. Browning was a 1949 graduate of Easley High School and retired from the United States Postal Service-Easley Branch with 33 years of service. He was an active member of United Wesleyan Church where he served in numerous positions, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and an avid Clemson Football fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 72 years, are his two daughters; Linda B. Clardy (Jackie) and Sherri B. Lee (Tommy), both of Easley; his four grandchildren, Mike Clardy (Crystal), Kristi Hawkins, Christopher Lee and Taylor Lee; and his two great-grandchildren, Tyler Clardy and Lily Kate Clardy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Browning was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Christopher Clardy; five brothers, Willie Lee Browning, J.C. Browning, Clarence Browning, Horace Browning and Jack Browning; and a sister, Virginia Stephens.

Graveside services was March 11, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens.

BRENDA GAIL CHAPMAN

EASLEY — Brenda Gail Chapman, 73, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born July 18, 1950, in Easley, Gail was the daughter of the late Otis A. Smith and Gladys E. Kirk Smith. Gail was a member of Alice Wesleyan Church in Easley. Mrs. Chapman loved the beach and spending time with her friends. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed greatly.

Survivors include her companion of more than 30 years, Rex Evans; three sisters, Bertie Bowles of Chattanooga, Tenn., Shirley Wood of Chesnee and Mary Camp of Easley; nieces and nephews, Jeannie Burgess of Easley, Austin Bowles (Cindy) of Las Vegas, Nev., Lisa Mowery (Mark) of Chattanooga, Mike Smith (Tracy) of Easley, Jeff Burgess of Easley, Diane Durham (Scott) of Easley, Sandy Ross (Kevin) of Easley, Robby Camp (Kim) of Easley, Kevin Camp of Easley, Annette Wood of Chesnee, Allan LaBoone (Laura) of Easley, Donna Pace (David) of Easley and Hughie Pace of Easley; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chapman was predeceased by two brothers, Edgar Smith and Tony Smith, both of Easley; four sisters, Bobbie Burgess, Ruby Jack Smith, Nancy Pace and Judy LaBoone, all of Easley; and three nephews, Jerry Burgess, Joey Burgess and Jimmy Burgess, all of Easley.
