ROGER HASKETT

BELTON — Roger Haskett, 70, loving husband to Diane Haskett, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at his home.

Born June 20, 1954, Roger was the middle son of Furman R. Haskett and Frances B. Haskett. He was blessed to grow up in Pickens in a loving family with two awesome brothers, Ray and Mark, whom he loved dearly.

Roger played sports from an early age with several coaches making great impressions on him. Those include Lee Patterson, Dieter Chappell and Andy Virgil. He was given the nickname “Bosco” by Marc Hiott in the eighth grade which stuck with him through high school.

He met his wife, Diane Lord, at Mars Hill College and got married in 1978. He and Diane were married for 47 years. Fathering two remarkable and amazing children, Adam and Adrienne. His greatest joy came from his five granddaughters; Audrey, Norah, Elsie, Zoey and Hadley from their marriages with Sydney and Jason.

Roger was in real estate and appraising early on and finished his career with Wells Fargo in Wealth Management where he handled real estate trusts for 20 years. He succeeded and failed at different times throughout his career, but his greatest decision was to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Roger’s prayer for each of you is that you accept him as Lord of your life.

Visitation will be held on April 25, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.

DONALD CALVIN OWENS

EASLEY — Donald Calvin Owens, 87, beloved husband of Becky Owens for 50 years, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born on Feb. 6, 1938, in Johnetta, Ky., Donald was the cherished son of the late Casper Owens and Elise Hale Owens. A proud patriot, he honorably served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Donald dedicated 33 years of his life to a successful career at NCR Corporation, where his hard work and commitment left a lasting impression.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Owens; daughter, Xan Owens (Michelle); son, Darren Owens; stepdaughter, Natalie Herzog (Spencer); stepson, Alan Hastings (Kim); grandchildren, Hillary Hastings, Nathaniel Herzog (Rebecca), Oliva Heindel (Carl) and Mitchell Hastings (Gianna); great-grandson, Owen Heindel; and sisters, Marlene Smith and Terry Brown.

Donald’s burial will take place in Indiana.

SARAH MEDLIN GEORGE

PICKENS — Sarah Medlin George, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at her residence.

Born on April 10, 1949, in Pickens County, was the daughter of the late Rev. Lunie Medlin and Lizzie Bell Gilstrap Powell. A longtime member of Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, her faith was an important part of her life. She worked as a certified nursing assistant, dedicating herself to the care and comfort of others with kindness and compassion.

She had a deep love for nature and travel, especially bird watching and observing wildlife. Seafood was one of her favorite meals, and she treasured trips to the beach with her family, where she created some of her most cherished memories.

Survivors include her children, Jason George (Trina) and Alethea Swee (Bjorn), both of Pickens; grandchildren, Alexandria Reeves (Kyle), Austin Palmer (Corissa), Jase George and Carson George; great-grandchildren, Noah, Evelyn, Aubree, Everett and Asher; and her beloved grand-dog, Foxy.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. George was predeceased by her stepfather, Eugene Powell.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Lutheran Hospice Team for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Sarah during her time of need.

The family will hold a memorial service that will be announced at a later date.

JO ANN SMITH

SUNSET — Jo Ann Smith, 90, loving wife of the late Hovie M. Smith for 70 years entered in to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, at Manna Health Care in Pickens. She formerly lived in Sunset community before becoming a resident of Manna in 2022.

Born Dec. 2, 1934, in the Crowe Creek area in Pickens. Jo Ann, lovingly called “Jo” by the family, was the firstborn of five children of the late Alcie A. and Leila Cooper Ellenburg.

She was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church in Sunset for over 60 years, where she previously served many years as the Sunday School teacher of the Senior Mother’s Class and was a member of the adult choir.  She loved her church and church family. She enjoyed reading her Bible and sending cards of encouragement to others.  Before her health declined, her hobbies were quilting, crocheting, gardening, and taking care of her flowers.  She was employed with Singer Manufacturing in Pickens for several years.

Jo Ann’s life was a testimony of faithfulness, kindness, and a loving gentle spirit. Her greatest joy in her life was spending time with her family. She was known for her delicious homemade biscuits, pound cakes, and making her delicious peanut butter fudge. She touched the hearts of many and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine through generations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Jo Ann is survived by her loving children, Cathy Simmons (Norman), Nancy Keith (Ken), David Smith all of Sunset and Randy Smith (Jill) of Pickens. She is also survived by her five cherished grandchildren, Robyn Dodgens (Keith), Chad Keith (Audrey), Brent Simmons (Susie), Carrie Holder (Clayton) and Derek Smith (Hannah); three step grandchildren, Jordan, C.J. and Andrea Radford; and 15 adored great- grandchildren; Abbey and Emma Dodgens, Hannah and Haley Simmons, Jackson and Carolina Keith, Jake, Luke, Evan, Joanna, Rachel and Zeke Holder, Ever Smith, Cash Calvert, Naomi Smith.  She also “adopted-in” Kari Peace (Lee) and their daughter, Sierra, as grandchildren. She is also survived by two sister, Mary Lois Holcombe and Sandi Tinsley (Steve) both of Pickens; a sister-in-law, Lee Ellenburg of Sunset; a brother-in-law, Harold P. Waldrop of Greenville and many nieces and nephews, that she dearly loved.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother, R. C Ellenburg, a sister, Jean Waldrop, a brother-in-law, Horace Holcombe and a sister-in-law, Velma Smith Bradley and her husband, Melvin.

A funeral service to celebrate Jo Ann’s home going was held on April 19, at Antioch Baptist Church, 721 Eastatoee Creek Rd., Sunset, SC 29685, conducted by the Pastor, Dr. Barry Pace. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens.

Flowers are accepted, and memorial donations in Jo Ann’s honor may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, P.O. Box 602, Pickens or to Traditions Health Hospice, 109 Laurens Rd., #1-A, Greenville, SC 29607.  The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated caregivers of Manna Health Care and Traditions Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

WILLIAM ‘BUD’ E. MOORE

EASLEY —  William “Bud” E. Moore, 91, husband of the late Mary Patterson Moore, of Easley, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late William Marvin and Eula Finley Moore.

Bud was a retired carpenter with Harper General Contractors. He loved Bluegrass gospel and attended Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy.

Bud is survived by a son, William Perry Moore of Easley; daughter-in-law, Mary Moore; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he was preceded in death by sons, Martin R. “Marty” Moore and Harold Gregory “Greg” Moore; brothers, Roger Moore and Cecil Moore; sisters, Carolyn Roper, Pauline Gillespie and Beulah Galloway; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m on April 23, at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial will follow in Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

ELLIS DAVIS, JR.

EASLEY — Mr. Ellis Davis Jr., 87, husband of the late Marie White Davis, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Born in Greenville County, the son of the late Ellis Davis Sr. and the late Ruth Ellison Davis, Mr. Davis was a graduate of Clemson College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree, belonged to the ROTC and was a member of the track team.

He was a chemist and inventor and held many patents.

Ellis retired from Burlington Industries and was the owner and operator of STRA. He was a U.S. Army Captain, having served during the Bay of Pigs, and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Mr. Davis loved his family and church. He loved running and especially loved gardening where he had more than 300 rose bushes and held many awards for his roses. All that knew Ellis, knew he was a loyal and avid Clemson Tiger fan.

Surviving are his son, Kenneth Davis (Debbie) of Easley; his daughters, Teresa Handley (Bill) of Easley, Cindy Boccabello (Frank) of Easley and Kathy Hetrick (John) of Greenville; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Davis was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Davis Kelly and Elizabeth Davis Moore.

The funeral was held on April 9, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the burial followin in the church cemetery.
