RACHEL W. MASON

EASLEY — Rachel Wicker Mason, 88, daughter of Alton and Minnie Wicker, died on Monday, May 22, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Rachel is survived by her daughters, Connie (Sid) Jenkins, Karen (Dale) Stephens and Amy Mason (Lynn Hendrix); a granddaughter, Jennifer (Rhett) Butler; great-grandchildren, Sidney Jenkins, Mason Butler, Ellie, Sam and Hosanna Broughton; her sister, Rebecca Clayton; sister-in-law, Kathleen Wicker; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her best friend, Dot Crocker and “honorary daughter” Linda Lesley.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Foster F. Mason; along with her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Jenkins (Scott) Broughton; and her brothers, Jake Wicker and Isaac Wicker.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of The Woodlands at Furman, especially Nurse Teresa and CNAs Emerald, Jo Ann and Davia for their loving care and attention to our mother.

We’d also like to thank the staff on the second floor of St. Francis Hospital, Downtown, for their wonderful care and kindness during Mother’s final days, especially Nurse Kendra.

The funeral was held on May 25 at First Baptist Church, Easley, officiated by Dr. John Adams. Visitation was held on Wednesday night, May 24, at Robinson Funeral Home.

BOBBY JOE WILSON

FOUNTAIN INN — Bobby Joe Wilson, 76, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, son of the late Beatrice Rice Wilson and Worley Wilson. Mr. Wilson enjoyed bowling, dancing and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Joey Wilson (Denise) of Six Mile and Larry Wilson (Crystal) of Pickens; four sisters, Shelby Jean Ellison, Doris O’Shields (Pat), Juanita Byrd (Rodney) and Peggy King; five brothers, Heyward Wilson, Luther Wilson (Doris), Arthur Wilson (Sandra), Gene Wilson (Patricia) and Mike Wilson; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Mason and Michael Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Amber Wilson; and two brothers, James and Steve Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

ELAINE SMITH

EASLEY — Elaine Robertson Smith, 70, of Sabra Drive, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at her residence.

Born in Lynwood, Calif., she was the wife to Kenneth Michael Smith for 49 years and a daughter of the late Harold Robertson Sr. and Grace Sewell Robertson. Mrs. Smith was a dual member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 80 in Liberty and Chapter 200 in Easley. She enjoyed making beautiful jewelry, but her most precious jewels were her grandchildren, who she loved spending time with. She was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter, Kellie King (Eric) of Easley; and four grandchildren, Cassidy Bryant, Greyson Bryant, Avery King and Lilah King.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Robertson, and a brother, Harold Robertson Jr.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Smith were held on May 26 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Dr. Roger Couch.

MRS. MIRIAM PHILLIPS

EASLEY — Mrs. Miriam Brandt Philips, 85, wife of the late William Jack Phillips, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Ruben J. and Maybell Bridges Brandt.

Miriam was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She loved to read, do word searches, spend time with her family and play the piano.

She is survived by her son, Michael Philips; grandchildren, Anna Aiken (Jordan) and Zachary Phillips; and great-grandchildren Kada Ross-Aiken, Gage Aiken, Breana Aiken, Ryland Langston, Lily Phillips and Rosie Phillips.

In addition to her parents and husband, Miriam was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynn Ward; sister, Millicent Bigham Owens; and brother, Maurice Brandt.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley from 4-6 p.m.

A funeral Service will be held Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Burial will follow the service at the Rock Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

BETTY JEAN GRIFFIN

LIBERTY — Betty Jean  Griffin, 73, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Six Mile on March 23, 1950, to the late Tommy and Veda Smith Grant. She worked at ARA Food Service and attended Open Praise Fellowship Church. Mrs. Griffin enjoyed making crafts, coloring and going to yard sales. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her three children, Barry Griffin (Jennifer) of Pickens, Benji Griffin (Stacey) of Liberty and Barbara Pilgrim (Tony) of Liberty; two grandchildren, Payton Griffin and Kole Griffin; and three brothers, David Grant (Ollie Mae), Asa Grant (Jean) and Ernest Grant (Linda).

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bruce Griffin; four sisters, Drucilla Durham, Sybil Edmonds, Nancy Patterson and Lila Moore; and two brothers, Billy Grant and Robert Grant.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday June 2, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from noon-1:45 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service at Dillard Funeral Home.

The family members are at their respective homes.

JOEY FREEMAN

EASLEY — Joey Freeman, 63, son of the late Jack and Martha Leroy Freeman, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at his home.

A native of Pickens County, Joey was born on Sept. 16, 1959. He loved hunting, fishing, classic cars and antiques.

Survivors include his children, Nathan Freeman (Hannah), Coty Freeman (Paige) and Nicole Freeman (Aubrey Otabachi); his grandchildren, Landen Freeman, Haedyn Freeman, Cobben Freeman, Brody Freeman, Natalie Freeman, A.J. Galloway, Bristol Freeman, Malek Otabachi and Layana Otabachi; and his nephews, Billy Freeman and Eric Freeman.

Joey was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Sam Freeman.
