 DOUGLAS ‘DOUGIE’ GRANT JR.

PICKENS — Douglas “Dougie” Grant Jr., of Pickens SC, met Jesus on Friday May 2, 2025, surrounded by a room full of love. Doug fought a brave fight with health issues and remained hopeful and amazingly strong through the very end.

Born in Pickens County on Sept. 15, 1965, to Douglas and Mary Grant Sr., Doug began his life of being a loving son and a baby brother to Karen, his very first friend. Those two roles remained of importance to him throughout his whole life as he shared precious bonds with each of them.

The best daddy there was, Doug spent his life ensuring his children were always taken care of and that they knew his love for them. He did an amazing job doing so. A proud “Papa Doug” to his grandchildren, he attended all sports and special events for each that he could. He always enjoyed the time he could spend with each one, and they never had to question his love for them.

Doug was a friend to many. A true, genuine friend. Many of his lifelong friendships began as a child with his cousins. Doug began working for Cryovac Sealed Air in the ‘90s and remained a dedicated employee until health issues forced him to rest. Many special friendships came about throughout the years employed here, turning several coworkers into brothers. He cherished the friendships he made throughout his life and spoke highly of each one. His family would like to extend their appreciation to all of his many friends as well as their deepest condolences to each one. The family acknowledges the huge loss each friend is feeling as well.

Doug is survived by his parents, Doug and Mary Grant; his children, Travis Grant (Molly), Amber Grant (Kelvin), Brandon Grant and Courtney Grant; and grandchildren, Blake, Kaylee, Niyonna, Londyn, Kash and Brentley. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Grant Winchester (Rick); niece, Erin (Stewart); nephew, Jesse (Rachel); and special great-nieces and nephews whom he loved. “Uncle Doug” was another role he had in life, and he did it well.

Doug received the gift of salvation when he was younger and recently professed his faith again where he also expressed how well the Lord was gifting him peace and comfort in his mind and spirit. All the broken hearts that Doug left behind are devastated by his passing, while equally comforted knowing that he was welcomed into Heaven after his final breath.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Grant family.

JONATHAN GROOVER

PICKENS — Jonathan Groover, 44, of Pickens, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on April 29, 2025.

Jonathan was born in Savannah, Ga., on Feb. 3, 1981, to Charles and Peggy Groover. Growing up in Taylors, he was a bright and inquisitive boy who had an early interest in gadgets, cars and technology of all kinds. He was well-liked by his peers and classmates, and many of them became loyal lifetime friends. However, his best buddy while growing up was his younger brother, Andrew. Jonathan was clever, witty and fun to be around. He was also a hard worker and later on became a talented security systems technician, most recently employed by Safe Haven Security.

Jonathan accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy, was baptized and grew up as a faithful member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. As a young adult, he went through some very rough and terrible times, but His loving Father God pulled him out of that miserable pit and gave him a new start. He turned his life around, worked hard, bought a house near his sons and became the man and father he was meant to be. Praise God.

Jonathan was a loving and caring son. He made several trips to Hendersonville with his friend Matt Spencer to help his mother after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. He was a dedicated father to his precious sons Eli and Noah, the two great loves of his life. On weekends and school breaks, you could usually find Jonathan on adventures with his boys. He was happiest when he was out in the woods or on a lake or beach. He had an adventurous spirit and spent countless hours hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking and exploring. One of his favorite hiking places was Nine Times Preserve near his home. He loved to take Eli and Noah out on Lake Jocassee with his friend and father-in-law, Chip Dunn. His Instagram account is filled with amazing photos and videos of mountain vistas, waterfalls, creeks, beaches, trails and wildlife from his many adventures in the great outdoors.

Jonathan is survived by his children, Eli Groover, Noah Groover and Maxwell Baur; his mother, Peggy Groover Cook (Bill); sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Scott Bridges; and brothers, Keith Groover and Andrew Groover.

He is also survived by his mother- and father-in-law, Sheila and Chip Dunn; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Charles Groover, and his grandparents, Rev. Gus and Ruby Groover and James and Dorothy Newsome.

All those Jonathan left behind are devastated by his tragic passing. We loved him beyond measure, but we know we will be reunited with him in Heaven if we are believers.

This great loss would be unbearable if not for our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. Our prayer is that everyone who reads this will examine their hearts and seek salvation through Jesus. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

A memorial service was held on May 3 at Mountain View Funerals in Pickens. Dr. Justin Alexander and Dr. Daniel Heeringa were the officiants, and Dr. Ralph Carter led the family in prayer at the private burial at Wood Memorial Park in Greer.

A video recording of the service will be made available on the Mountain View Funerals and Cremations website, mountainviewfunerals.com.
