SAMANTHA LUCILLE ‘LUCI’ SIMPSON

SIX MILE — Luci Simpson, born Nov. 4, 1976, wife of Michael LeRoy Simpson, passed away on July 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, love and devotion to her family.

Samantha lived a life grounded in her Christian faith. Attending The Mount Church in Clemson, she was known for her deep love of the Lord and her god-fearing nature. Her spiritual strength profoundly influenced those blessed to know her, and her trust in God was a guiding light throughout her life’s journey.

Family was at the very heart of Samantha’s world. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Kenadie Martinez and son-in-law, Tony Martinez; her cherished son, Wyatt and daughter-in-law, Kinley; and her dear son, Garrett Simpson. Samantha was especially devoted to her grandchildren, Ellie Martinez and Ollie Martinez, whose laughter and presence filled her days with tremendous joy and pride.

Samantha also shared a close bond with her sister, Lori Beth Davis, and her brother-in-law, Steven Jeffers. Their enduring connection provided strength and warmth throughout many of life’s moments.

Among her joys, Samantha treasured time spent at the beach, particularly the Outer Banks. These special places brought her peace, relaxation and many cherished memories with her loved ones. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she adored every moment she was able to spend with them.

Though words cannot fully express the profound loss felt by those who loved her, Samantha’s legacy will continue to live on through the faith, love and kindness she showed to all. Her steadfast spirit and compassionate heart will be dearly missed, but the memory of her will remain an enduring source of comfort and inspiration.

Samantha Lucille Simpson’s life was a blessing to everyone she knew, and she will be remembered with deep respect and everlasting love.

SUSAN PARKER GIBSON

EASLEY — Susan Parker Gibson, 65, loving wife of 32 years to Brian E. Gibson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 14, 1961, in Pickens County, Susan was the beloved daughter of Rose Stewart Parker and the late Ken Parker.

Susan dedicated more than 40 years to Pickens County Adult Learning Center, where she inspired countless students through her passion for teaching and lifelong learning. She was a respected leader in her profession, serving as president of various adult learning organizations throughout her career. Outside of her work, Susan enjoyed reading, was a faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family and friends.

In addition to her devoted husband and her mother, Susan is survived by her daughters, Katie Gibson of Easley, Leanna Gibson of Atlanta, Ga., and Caroline Gibson of Easley; her beloved granddogs, Georgia and Honey; her brothers, Andy Parker and Tommy Parker (Theresa); her aunt, Vickie Stewart; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her father, Susan was preceded in death by her aunt, Jane Davis, and her uncle, Dickie Stewart.

FREDDY MAE EARNHARDT

EASLEY — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Freddy Mae Earnhardt, who departed for her heavenly home on July 14, 2026. She was surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly.

Born Jan. 13, 1946, she was a very treasured wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Freddy Mae spent her life dedicated to her family and friends with a deep and abiding love, and her passion was to be faithful in her walk with God and to be used in His will.

Freddy Mae was a proud graduate of D.W. Daniel High School. She held many jobs throughout her life that included working in insurance and then many years at Champion Aerospace. In the earlier part of her working years, she maintained only part-time jobs as she was devoted to raising her three children. She considered no job to be as important as that of a mother, and she was determined to spend the most formative years of her children’s lives with them.

Freddy Mae was present in the lives of her family and friends as an undeniable force. Her love knew no bounds. She was persistent and resilient in helping her family and friends no matter what it took. She worked to solve problems, to be a listening ear, and put her hands and feet to work in any situation to help out. She was tireless in these efforts, and willing to go through whatever circumstances necessary to make a difference. To Freddy Mae, sacrifice was part of love, and she willingly did so to make the lives of those around her better.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Leonard “Len” Carroll Earnhardt; her devoted children, Lisa Ellis (Chris), Jeff Gilstrap (Anna Maria) and Chris Gilstrap; an adopted son she loved as her own, Ray Pryor; a sister, Sue Ellen Van Raalte; her loving grandchildren, Tyler Bell, Kelsea Bell, Mackynsi Bell, Todd Ellis, Brooke Ellis and Michelle Gibson; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Annie Mae Holden; and a brother, Junior Johnson.

Freddy Mae’s life was shaped by her faith in God. She was of the Baptist faith, and she had a desire to share the good news of salvation. For many years she taught a ladies’ Sunday school class. She began her planning early in the week and studied the Bible to lay out the lessons. She would work on the lesson and refine it during the week, and on Saturday evenings she printed the lessons for the ladies to have a copy. It was her determination to deliver a lesson that helped foster a closer walk with God and deeper understanding of His character. This passion to share about salvation led her to uncomfortable situations at times, but that didn’t stop her. She would push ahead and say “I said and did what I was supposed to, and now it’s in God’s hands.” Determination was definitely a strong characteristic in Freddy Mae’s life that was fueled by love and faith.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Earnhardt were conducted July 18 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens

LUCILLE EDWARDS

EASLEY — Mrs. Lucille Hollingsworth Edwards, 92, wife of the late Henry Aaron “Ed” Edwards, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Born in Spartanburg County, a daughter of the late Marion Hollingsworth and the late Nannie Blackwell Hollingsworth, Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving, are her daughter, Martha Lyons of Laurens; her son-in-law, Michael Gilliland of Pickens; and her grandchildren, John Carlton, Gaysha Thrasher, Jon Mann, Michael Mann II, Jessica Lyons Norman and Kayla Byrd-Leet.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Edwards was predeceased by two daughters, Linda Sue Jones and Sara Neal Gilliland; her son, James Leonard Neal; and her brothers, Thurmond Hollingsworth and James “Buck” Hollingsworth.

Graveside services were held July 17 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

VIRGIL DERRELL LUSK

PICKENS — Virgil Derrell Lusk, of Pickens, passed on July 12, 2026, at the age of 77.

Virgil was born on Sept. 26, 1948, in Oconee, to the late Wiley Lee and Bessie Todd Lusk.

Virgil is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Holder Lusk; two sons, Micheal Lusk and James Lusk (Dee Dee); five grandsons, Luke Lusk, Nooner Lusk, Grady Lusk, JT Lusk and Brandon Lusk; three granddaughters, Lilly Lusk, Annabell Lusk and Gracie Lusk; and brother, Rev. Ferber Lusk.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Lusk, Rev. Charles Lusk and Rev. Leon Lusk.

A graveside service was held on July 17 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

DONNIE WADE

EASLEY — Donnie Wade, 76, loving husband of 50 years to Kathy Wade, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Born on July 3, 1950, in Pickens County, Donnie was the beloved son of the late William Wade and Florine Wade.

Donnie found joy in the simple things in life and treasured every moment spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than hearing their laughter. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed playing bingo, watching football, relaxing at the beach, kayaking and sitting outside watching the bluebirds. Donnie had a special fondness for Krispy Kreme and looked forward to hearing his son working in the yard, one of the many little moments that brought him happiness. He was incredibly proud of his children and cherished the time they shared together. Donnie was also passionate about his Road Runner car and never missed an opportunity to visit auction barns and the jockey lot to wheel and deal and show off his leather craftsmanship.

Donnie is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Wade; his children, Nikki and Shannon Ellenburg and Joshua and Kayla Wade, all of Easley; and his cherished grandchildren, Nevaeh Rae Ellenburg, Gigi Ellenburg and Ari Ellenburg, all of Easley.

PEGGY CRAIG

SIX MILE — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy Ann Craig, a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, who peacefully departed this life on July 16, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born on Jan. 3, 1937, in Central, she was the widow of Bobby L. Craig and a daughter of the late J.C. and Mary Leona Rampey Jewell.

Peggy spent her life caring for others, both as an adult sitter with Guardian Home Care and through her deep involvement in her church community.

A longtime member of Gap Hill Baptist Church, Peggy was known for her unwavering faith and generous spirit. She took great pride in her role within the church, where she not only carried out her love for missions but also founded the Gleaners Ministry, which helped minister to widows. Her passion for sewing made her an excellent seamstress, pouring love into every stitch.

Peggy leaves behind her cherished children, Janice Stancil (Dwayne), Patty Ables, Danny Craig (Sheila) and Jimmy Craig (Tessa); her loving brothers, Floyd, Benny and Fred Jewell; a sister, Geraldine Donald; and her dear sister-in-law, Bonnie Harbin. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jason Merck (Ashley), Clarissa Crenshaw, Libby Searcy (Randy), Cherise Mitchell (Jason), Bethany Jernigan (Jarrett), Seth Ables (Rebecca), Becky Gerould (Chad) and Matthew Craig (Ashley), along with 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services to honor Mrs. Craig’s life were held on July 21 at Gap Hill Baptist Church. She was laid to rest at the Gap Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

CHARLES F. ELLENBURG

PICKENS — Charles F. Ellenburg, 81, loving husband of 59 years to Joann Ellenburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Born on Jan. 31, 1945, in Pickens County, Charles was the beloved son of the late Clyde Ellenburg and Ethel Nix Ellenburg.

Charles found his greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting, but nothing meant more to him than being with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A man of deep faith, Charles was a founding member of Amazing Grace Fellowship Church, where he faithfully served and built lasting friendships throughout the years.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Joann Ellenburg; his children, Sheryl A. McClaren (Stephen) of Pickens, Chris C. Ellenburg (Lisa) of Pickens, Timothy Mark Ellenburg (Amanda) of Pickens and Brooke Qualls (Dave) of Pickens; his beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Alex (Katie), Emma (Manny), Adley, Brayden, Morgan and Cristian (Anthony); his treasured great-grandchildren, Weslynn and Magnolia Cate “Maggi”; sisters, Glenda Wilson, Bertha Woodring, Ella Mae Shoaf (Richard); and brothers, Ricky Ellenburg (Diane) and Alton Ellenburg (Faye).

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Erwin Ellenburg and Wilton Ellenburg.

LINDA H. WAGES

PICKENS — Linda H. Wages, 80, loving wife of 45 years to the late Calvin Ervin Wages, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

Born on March 2, 1946, in Dillon, Linda was the beloved daughter of the late John Benjamin House and Martha Lee Mitchum House.

Linda was a proud graduate of Dillon High School in Dillon. Throughout her career, she faithfully served in accounts payable for the Charleston County Office Building and later for the Berkeley County Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart and willingness to help others.

Linda found her greatest joy at the beach, where she loved spending time with her sisters creating cherished memories together. She also enjoyed searching for hidden treasures at yard sales and thrift stores and generously volunteered at a local nursing home alongside her dear friend, Bobbie. Above all, Linda treasured her family and the many special moments they shared.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Susan Thomas (Duane) of Pickens and William Eric Singletary of Pickens; her grandchildren, Bradley Thomas and Jessica Addis (Dillon); her great-grandchildren, Zoey Ramey, Willie, Gaines, Isabella Thomas, and Casen Addis; a sister, Deborah Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

In addition to her husband and parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth “Libb” Burney, Frances Fenters and Geraldine “Gerry” Risher.

Linda will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart and unwavering love for her family. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

PATRICIA R. ‘RUTH’ LITTLETON

PICKENS — Patricia R. “Ruth” Littleton, 85, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026.

Born on Sept. 14, 1940, in Greenville, Ruth lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep love for her family and a kind, generous spirit that touched all who knew her.

Ruth was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Pickens, where she found strength in her faith and fellowship with her church family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and her legacy will continue through the generations she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, James Clifton “Bud” Littleton, and her cherished great-grandson, Garion Michael Barber.

Ruth is lovingly survived by her three daughters, Sheila Stone of Travelers Rest, Sophia James and her husband, Jerry, of Easley and Kim Keller of Norris.

She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Dawn Barber (Rick), Shana Lollis (Josh), Matthew Nix (Nicole), Lee James (Amber), Leanne Jaimes (Reinaldo), Leshay Campbell (Don) and Luke James (Jessi).

In addition, Ruth is survived by 23 great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandchild expected soon.

She found her greatest joy in her family and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.

Ruth will be remembered for her gentle heart, steadfast faith and the love she shared so freely with her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

The family will be at the home of Jerry and Sophia James at 105 Oaklane Drive, Easley, SC 29642.

PATSY ANN ‘PAT’ REYNOLDS

PICKENS — Patsy Ann “Pat” Reynolds, 77, loving wife of 57 years to the late Earl Reynolds, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on Feb. 12, 1949, in Greenville, Pat was the beloved daughter of the late W.T. Nalley and Charlene Queen Nalley.

Prior to her illness, Pat was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was actively involved with the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in supporting both her church family and her own family. She loved raising her grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to be part of their lives. A devoted Clemson Tigers fan, Pat was a longtime season ticket holder who rarely missed a game and enjoyed traveling to bowl games to cheer on her Tigers. She also found happiness in baking, working in her yard and spending time with those she loved. Pat was a graduate of Greenville Tech, where she received her RN degree, which was a lifelong goal of hers. Above all, Pat was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose kindness and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her.

Pat is lovingly survived by her children, Melissa Hines (David) of Marietta and Rob Reynolds (Tracy) of Travelers Rest; her cherished grandchildren, Aaron, Blake, Noah, Anna and Jenna; her siblings, Gayle Griffin, Debbie Garrett (Tony), Sherry Wingo (Hal) and Bill Nalley (Sharon); her dear neighbors and special friends, Cora and Charlie; her beloved Shih-poo, Lacey; and her faithful dog, Rocky.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Nalley; her stepmother, Carol Nalley; her brother-in-law, Tom Griffin; and her infant brother, Charles Thomas Nalley.

LILA RUTH STEPHENS GALLOWAY

PICKENS — Lila Ruth Stephens Galloway went to be with her Lord and Savor on July 19, 2026, at the age of 97.

Lila was born on Jan. 19, 1929, in Pickens, to the late Norton B. and Pearl Durham Stephens. She was a faithful member at Gap Hill Church of God until her health declined. Lila served in the church as a Sunday school teacher, singing and as the custodian. She loved to be outside working with her flowers or out riding around looking at other people’s yards. Lila had a sweet tooth and loved to have something sweet with every meal.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Galloway of Ringgold, Ga., and daughter, Ann G. Duncan of Pickens. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Crystal Herring (Wade), David Galloway (Tonya) and Kevin Galloway; four great-grandchildren, Adam Greer, Sarah Greer Griffin (Braxton), Audrey Galloway and Allie Galloway; step-grandchildren, Justin Herring (Monica), Brad Herring (Cassidy) and Tiffany Herring Tompkins (Dennis); and a sister, Nellie Grace Knight.

In addition to her parents, Lila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Cleo Galloway; a son, Cleo Edwin Galloway; and three siblings, Flora Durham, Alma Chastain and Paul Stephens.

The family will receive friends from noon-12:45 p.m. July 22 at Dillard Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 1 p.m. in the chapel.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MARJORIE GARDNER GEORGE

EASLEY — Marjorie Gardner George, 78, beloved wife of William “Bill” Grady George, passed away peacefully at her home on July 8, 2026.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Marjorie had a smile that could brighten any room and anyone’s heart. With her bright eyes and gentle, selfless, inquisitive spirit, she was always curious and ready to listen — to a dear family member, friend or someone she had just met. It brought her joy to stay meaningfully connected with her long-distance relatives with regular visits and phone calls.

Born on April 28, 1948, to John Calhoun Gardner and Marjorie Sheffield Gardner in Daytona Beach, Fla., Marjorie grew up primarily in Savannah, Ga. She graduated from HV Jenkins High School in 1966, where she played intramural basketball and graduated with honors. She always looked forward to attending class reunions and reconnecting with friends and classmates.

After attending Shorter College (Rome, Ga.), Marjorie transferred to Mercer University (Macon, Ga.) in the fall of 1967. Just prior to the semester, she attended a student retreat where she met Bill for the first time, as well as a circle of friends that have remained among her dearest friends throughout her life. She graduated with honors in 1970 from Mercer, where she excelled academically and thrived in the religious community of the university.

Marjorie and Bill were married on June 20, 1970, and after Bill finished seminary, they made their home in Lexington. Marjorie loved taking care of her family and their home, whether it was cooking, doing needlework, working in the yard, tending a vegetable garden or caring for roses. She loved the beach, jigsaw puzzles, playing games, attending the symphony, participating in church and spending time with family.

As the daughter of a family that owned an ACE Hardware store, Marjorie was comfortable serving and developing relationships with others. Her family also included several church pianists and organists, so Marjorie was exposed to church music at an early age, and she enjoyed singing alto in church choirs all her life. Marjorie’s deep faith in God and her engagement in church life were at the heart of who she was. She was passionate about affirming and nurturing the faith journey of others. Reflecting that, she was on the board of birectors for the Alliance of Baptists in the 1990s, and she was excited about her work with the Pastoral Intern and Residency Program at First Baptist Church, Greenville.

Marjorie’s career has been one marked by serving others. While being home full-time with her daughter, Kimberly, Marjorie was deeply involved in her local Homemakers Club, where she developed special friendships and held several leadership positions. Later, while working full-time, she worked in a variety of settings including Lexington County Coordinator for Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) and as volunteer coordinator at Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church (Columbia). During her work for the S.C. Baptist Convention, she served as liaison for the Ethics and Public Affairs Committee and later, the Education Department of the convention.

After relocating to Easley in 1990, Marjorie quickly became involved in the community through a variety of roles at Senior Action and eventually as their interim director. Through community relationships and family experiences with Alzheimer’s Disease, Marjorie found her vocational home with the Alzheimer’s Association of SC. She served as program director for Greenville, Pickens and Laurens counties for close to 20 years before her retirement. She was deeply committed to the education and support of persons with dementia and their families.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents; her uncle, Robert Woodruff Sheffield; her aunt, Norma Shefflield Braden; and uncle, Frank Gardner.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by her daughter, Kimberly George Taylor (Alan) of Cary, N.C.; her two grandchildren, whom she delighted in, Emily and Matthew; her brother, John “Jack” Calhoun Gardner Jr. (Cathy) of Savannah, Ga.; her nieces, Laura Gardner Geiger (Philip) of Raleigh, N.C., and Jennifer Gardner Faith (Jeff) of Rincon, Ga.; as well as many extended family members that Marjorie cherished.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Greenville, with a reception following in the Parlor (847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601). Private interment will be in the Remembrance Garden and Columbarium at a later date, also at the church.

CLAUDIA REBECCA ‘BECKY’ BAGWELL

LIBERTY — It is with both heavy hearts and joyous memories that we celebrate the life of Claudia Rebecca “Becky” Bagwell, beloved wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on Feb. 7, 1949, in Greenville, Becky was a daughter of the late Herschel D. and Claudia Owen Whitlock and the wife to John Marion “Poss” Bagwell for almost 59 years. She lived her life with a spirit full of love, laughter, and dedication to those around her.

Becky was a proud cosmetologist and took great joy in her career of over 40 years, where she touched the lives of many through her talents. But beyond her artistic skills, it was her deep love for family and community that truly defined her. She found great fulfillment in being surrounded by her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, John and Becca, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Her passion for service extended beyond her family. Becky was an active member of East Side Baptist Church, where she shared her beautiful voice in the choir, taught GA’s, and guided the youth girls in Sunday school. She was an integral part of the church’s women’s groups, radiating kindness and love to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her meals were not just food; they were a testament to her love as she poured her heart into cooking for family and friends.

Becky’s compassionate spirit made her a caregiver to everyone in need; her home was always open, and her heart always welcoming.

A memorial service hosted by the family will be held at 2 p.m. July 25, at East Side Baptist Church with a visitation to follow. The family will hold a private graveside service at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

In addition to her husband, Becky leaves behind two grandchildren, Rev. John McGuire (Hannah) and Becca Staton (Harley); seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Suzanne Koon (Rev. Randy Koon), along with countless friends whose lives she enriched. Though our hearts ache with her loss, we will forever cherish the memories and the love she brought into our lives.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her daughter, Terri Bagwell Fowler; and two sisters, Denise Gilstrap and Tamara Gollach.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Pruitt Health Hospice for the special care that was provided to Becky during her illness.

HARRIETT PHILLIPS KING

EASLEY — Harriett Phillips King, of Easley, passed on July 14, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on June 6, 1943, she was born in Marion, N.C. to the late Harry Lee Phillips and Cleo Pannell Phillips.

Harriett was a devoted member of Arial Baptist Church. She graduated from Anderson University College and later attended Wyatt Institute, where she received her real estate license. She enjoyed collecting coins but above all spending time with her family.

Harriett is survived by her son, Russell King (Tammy); daughter, Meredith Anderson (Ricky); Johnathan King (Kristian); grandchildren, Brittany Ballenger (Josh), Brandon King (Maeryn), Taylor Cole (Deborah), Hanna Parton (Morgan), McKinley King, Erin Dunn (Payton) and Riley Dunn (Courtney); nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Susan Sease (Wayne).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug King, in 2010. She later married Gene Granger, who passed away in 2018.

A visitation for Harriett will be held from 12:30-1:45 p.m. July 24 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with a committal service to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
