DAVID J. MOODY

LIBERTY — Mr. David J. Moody, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 25, 2021.

David was born in Harriman, Tenn., and was the son of the late Herschel S. Moody and Evelyn P. Moody. He was a loving and dedicated husband to Jeanette Riggs Moody for 64 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Riggs Moody of Liberty; sons, David J. Moody II of Spartanburg and Scott E. Moody of Easley; a daughter, Kimberly M. Alexander of Liberty; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Moody was the oldest of five boys and had twin sisters. He went directly from high school to enlist into the U.S. Navy. He served in the Korean War. After his military service, he spent most of his civilian career as an insurance claim adjuster after graduating from the University of Tennessee. GO VOLS!

Mr. Moody was dedicated to his church. He attended Pickens First Baptist Church. He went on many mission trips to Peru. He worked at United Christian Ministries for many years.

Mr. Moody loved the great outdoors. He loved to hike. He loved flowers, trees, birds and working in his yard.

Mr. Moody loved music of all genres, but especially the Grand Ole Opry Station and anything gospel.

Mr. Moody never met a stranger. He spoke to anyone who would stop to talk. He made everyone feel special and worth his time. He loved people, especially children.

The memorial service for David was on Aug. 28 at Pickens First Baptist Church.

HELEN SURRETT CHASTAIN

EASLEY — Helen Surrett Chastain, 91, widow of Jake Chastain, of Easley, died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Dora Suddeth Surrett, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Helen was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a secretary for Kent Manufacturing Company for several years, and later for the sales department at Singer. Later, she retired as an accounts payable manager from Belk.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Syble Surrett; and two brothers, James and Buck Surrett.

Her caretakers were Judy Young and Jerril and Linda Suddeth.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home. Burial was at the Westview Cemetery of Easley.

WILLIAM THOMAS  (BUBBA) MCCULLOUGH JR.

PICKENS — William Thomas McCullough Jr., 45, husband of Linda Sue Davis McCullough, passed away from this life on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021.

Bubba loved working on cars and rail buggies. He was a very outgoing person who would help anyone in a time of need, and he also cherished his family and friends with all of his heart.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; father, William Thomas McCullough Sr. of Easley; stepmother, Janice McCullough of Easley; mother, Juanita Jane Revis and special friend Jimmy Godfrey of Norris; one son, William Patrick McCullough of Easley; one stepdaughter, Paige Lynn of Pickens; two stepsons, Jeremy Worley of Six Mile and Brandon Worley of Pickens; one stepbrother; Michael Stegall of Easley; and six step-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Aug. 30 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley. The family gathered with friends and family following the service at the graveside.

Bubba was predeceased by his sister, Juanita Mae Owens.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Flowers will be accepted.

GERALD D. SHERIFF

 

EASLEY — Mr. Gerald D. Sheriff, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Larry Dean Sheriff and the late Sarah Elizabeth Sheriff, Dean was the husband of 56 years to Yvonne Elrod Sheriff.

He was the father of three children, Benjamin Dean Sheriff (Angie), Jason Matthew Sheriff (Angela) and Dora Jennifer Van Patton (John). Dean was the proud Papa of five grandsons, Braxton (Laura), Colton, Dalton (Hannah), Ashton and Bennett; and one granddaughter, Alexis; and a great-grandson on the way, Parker Dean Sheriff. He is also survived by a sister, Dianne Heatherly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sheriff was predeceased by a brother, David Alley Sheriff.

He was a faithful husband, father and servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He faithfully attended Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading his bible and serving in his church.

Funeral services happpened on Sunday, Aug. 29, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

GAIL ANNETTE SWEET

EASLEY — Gail Annette Sweet, 78, wife of the late Ronnie Sweet, passed away from this life on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Lexi Blair Harbin and Elijah Tillman Harbin.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Bagwell and Michael Bagwell, both of Easley; siblings, L.T. Harbin, Connie Nalley, Barbara Christopher, Shirley Ellenburg and Jimmy Harbin; grandchildren, Strasha Harrison, David Bagwell and Josh Bagwell; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Bagwell, Emily and Procter, Alyssa Harrison and Kay Lee Atkinson.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley. The family gathered with friends and family following the service at the graveside.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sweet was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Bagwell; a son, Tim Bagwell; and a grandson, Justin Bagwell.

 ROGER COLLINS

SENECA — Rex Roger Collins, 59, loving husband of 42 years to Cathy Ann Collins, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, Rex was born on Sept. 9, 1961, a son of the late James Edwards Collins and Jonnie Louise Holder Collins.

He loved fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy; one son, Josh Collins (Kelly) of Seneca; and two sisters, Lynn Floyd (Chris) of Easley and Denise Harris (Gene) of Belton.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was predeceased by two brothers, Ronnie Collins and Randy Collins.

Graveside services were held on Aug. 30 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley. The family gathered with friends and family following the service at the graveside.

Flowers will be accepted.
