PICKENS — On Aug. 25, East Pickens Baptist Church celebrated the grand opening of a new facility for the children and youth of Pickens County.

The new facility features children’s Sunday School space and a multi-media theatre for Sunday morning Kids Worship and the Wednesday night youth service.

The entire church gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony before touring the new space. From a construction lift, the Rev. Jamie Duncan offered scripture and led the church in a corporate prayer of dedication.

The entire church prayed that hundreds, if not thousands, of children and teenagers be impacted by the new facility. The design and construction team for the KidCity project cut the grand opening ribbon, allowing the excited children to walk through the facility first.

The rest of the church followed them to tour the facility, celebrating this strategic step in reaching the next generation of Pickens County for Jesus.

“We wanted to create a space where children and teenagers feel important and celebrated. Our hearts’ desire is to see as many of the emerging generations of our community reached for Jesus. When a child or a teenager walks through these doors, we want to capture their attention. Our hearts’ desire is to introduce them to Jesus in an exciting, engaging way. This facility is a tool to reach families for the Lord,” said Duncan.

The children’s area is named KidCity because the hallway resembles a small town Main Street. Complete with backlit windows, unique doorway facades that look like storefronts, a working barber pole, and a large 3-D tree in the hallway, kids feel like they have a little city just for them.

The 120-seat theater features state-of-the-art projection and sound systems with a warehouse look. KidCity and the multi-media theater are the first phases of completion for the church’s Miracle Building, so named because the construction was completed debt-free, to the glory of God. As God provides, the final phase of the Miracle Building is the completion of a multi-purpose gymnasium and kitchen facilities.

The church invites you to come see the new facility soon. More information about the church can be found at www.eastpickens.org or through the church’s Facebook page.
