Former PHS coach faces more charges

PICKENS — A former Pickens High School assistant coach who was charged with having sex with a student and providing alcohol for other students earlier this year is facing more charges.

Joshua Bennett Dorr, 29, of 179 Praters Creek Road in Pickens, turned himself in to police last Thursday on two counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Dorr was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sexual battery with a student by the Pickens Police Department in October after an investigation into an allegation of sexual activity with a student and drinking alcohol with other students at a home in Pickens.

Dorr, who was not a teacher at Pickens High, resigned his coaching position on Sept. 29 and was placed on trespass notice from the school.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Creed Hashe said the new charges came as a result of an investigation into alleged activity involving Dorr and other minors that occurred outside the city limits of Pickens.

Warrants allege Dorr sent multiple photos of his genitals via text message to a minor in late September or early October and also provided alcohol to a minor between July 1 and Aug. 31.

Dorr was released Thursday on a total $33,000 surety bond.
