Gettys students invited to national youth empowerment conference

EASLEY — An effort to help the homeless has earned some Gettys Middle School students a trip to a youth empowerment conference later this month.

Seventh-grade students in Abigail Thompson Doud’s English language arts class created a “Socksgiving” drive after she challenged them to “change the world with socks,” student Aaron Candreva told the Courier last year.

Students began collecting socks for all ages on Dec. 1. The socks were donated to the Dream Center of Pickens County for use in the center’s “Santa Shoppe.”
