Green Wave pick up wins

EASLEY — The Easley High School varsity softball team added five wins to its record last week. The Lady Green Wave had a six-game win streak snapped during the Byrnes Lady Rebel Invitational by eventual tournament champion Union County.

Easley defeated rival Wren 3-1 in a non-region game and then added Region I-AAAA victories over T.L. Hanna (11-1) and Westside (15-5). After taking Thursday off, Easley defeated Landrum 7-1 in the opening round of the Byrnes tournament Friday, and followed that with an 8-3 victory over Riverside. On Saturday, Easley lost to Union County 10-1 to finish second in its six-team bracket. Playing for the Gold Division title, Easley lost to Dorman 11-3 and then dropped a 3-2 decision to Blue Ridge.

Easley played host to Woodmont Monday and then traveled to Laurens Tuesday. The Lady Green Wave, 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the region, will hold Alumni Night Friday when they play host to Greenwood.

Easley 3, Wren 1

The Lady Green Wave fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before rallying for the win.

Sydney Patterson opened the Easley third inning with a single. Mattison Trammell reached on a one-out error, and both scored on a single by Taylor Waldrop. Easley added an insurance run in the fifth when Kelsey Garrett singled and scored as Waldrop reached on Wren’s second error of the game.

Jade Hendricks got the win in the circle with six strikeouts. She gave up just three hits as Wren had just three base runners in the final four innings. Collins had eight strikeouts.

Easley 11, T.L. Hanna 1

Easley sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored five runs en route to the victory. The Lady Green Wave had just one hit in the first inning while taking advantage of three walks, a hit batter and three Hanna errors.

Hunter Everett got the win, and Isabel Durham worked the final two innings with five strikeouts.

Easley 15, Westside 5

A close game through four innings became a blowout as Easley scored eight runs in the fifth inning to take the win.

The Lady Green Wave scored two runs in the first and second innings for a 4-1 lead. After Westside scored in the third, Easley added another in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Robin Bradley. Westside tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Easley regained the lead with on an RBI single by Mattison Trammell.

That was as close as Westside would get. Easley plated eight runs in the fifth as 12 batters went to the plate.

Byrnes Tournament

Easley opened play Friday with a pair of games, defeating Landrum 7-1 and Riverside 8-3.

The game against Landrum was tied 1-1 after four innings, but Easley scored six runs in the fifth to take the win. Hannah Gravely and Taylor Waldrop each had two hits for Easley.

After falling behind Riverside 3-1, Easley scored four runs in the third for a 5-3 lead, and then added three runs in the fourth. Gravely and Kelsey Garrett each had a pair of hits, including a double by Gravely.

Hunter Everett was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts in four innings.

Easley ran into a hot-hitting team to open play Saturday morning. Union County had 12 hits, including a triple and three consecutive doubles to score nine runs in the second inning en route to a 10-1 win. The Lady Green Wave’s lone run came in the first inning as Gravely singled, stole second and scored when Garrett reached on an error.

In the opening game of the Gold Division, Dorman scored three runs in the second inning and then added eight more in the third to take an 11-3 win. Easley finally got on the board in the fifth when Hendricks singled and scored on a triple by Gravely. Patterson singled to drive in a run, and she later scored on a sacrifice fly by Mattison Trammell.

Easley lost in the consolation of the bracket to Blue Ridge 3-2 as the Lady Tigers got a home run in the fifth inning for the win.
