Liberty High hires new boys’ basketball coach

LIBERTY — After Liberty High boys’ basketball coach Cory Drennon was hired away last month to lead the Easley High girls’ program, Red Devil athletic director Sherry Haithcock turned to a familiar face to take the reins of the LHS boys.
Haithcock announced last Thursday that Jason Blalock will lead the Liberty boys heading into the Devils’ first season at the new LHS in the winter.
Blalock, who met with prospective players at the school on Thursday morning, has taught art at Liberty Elementary since 2007, has had stints as an assistant coach in both basketball and baseball at LHS.
A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Blalock was a three-sport letterman at Harrison High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. From there, he received a scholarship offer to play basketball at Shorter University and played semi-pro baseball as a member of the Marietta Reds.
