COLUMBIA — With another week of lower death numbers reported, Pickens County is pushing toward the light at the end of the tunnel in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported the confirmed COVID-19 death of one elderly Pickens County resident and the probable death of another in the seven-day period ending on Monday, when the latest DHEC numbers available at press time had been released.

As of Monday, the county had had 16,444 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,559 probable cases,
