Get easier access to military installations

The Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense have made some changes that will make it easier for veterans and their caregivers to get into various installations.

Whether it’s for medical appointments, shopping or any other reason, the changes will allow both veteran and caregiver to be electronically verified.

Ideally you’ll have a VA health card (the VHIC). If not, you can enroll for access by using a REAL ID driver’s license or an identification card if you don’t drive. Beginning November 2024, those without a VHIC

SIX MILE — Helen Elizabeth Singleton of Six Mile, wife to Richard (Dick) Harlan Singleton, passed away at age 89 on November 30, 2024.

Helen received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in 1957. She shared her love of music with many others through a long career in music education. This included teaching in Pickens area elementary schools, private piano lessons in her home, and many years at Six Mile Elementary while simultaneously serving as organist and pianist at First Baptist Church of Pickens, First Baptist Church of Clemson, and Mount Zion United Methodist Church. World of Energy kicks off Festival of Trees with canned food drive

UPSTATE — Duke Energy’s World of Energy education center is gearing up for its annual Festival of Trees display and voting contest with a canned food drive to support Oconee County feeding programs.

Easley NJROTC teams win area competitions

Legion to host block party for annual Army/Navy game

PICKENS — American Legion Post 11 will host a block party to watch the Army- Navy football game at the post’s headquarters at 185 Hagood St. in Pickens.

The game is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and all post members and their family are invited. Other members of the community are also invited.

Finger food will be available. If you have a favorite finger food you would like to share, please do so. No alcohol will be permitted.
