EASLEY — Prisma Health plans to build a new $138 million inpatient behavioral health hospital in Pickens County that it says will take a significant step forward in addressing the region’s growing need for enhanced access to cutting-edge behavioral health services.

Prisma officials hope to begin site work in spring 2025, pending certificate of need approval. Construction is expected to take approximately two years.

According to a news release, the hospital will be supported with $100 million in state funds appropriated to the S.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) by the state’s General

CENTRAL — After dropping two five set battles to rival Daniel in the regular season, the Pickens High School volleyball went into Thursday’s third round playoff match with the Lions looking for redemption and a trip to the Upper State Championship for the first time under third year head coach Mellie Crumpton.

Ultimately those regular seasons results mattered little, as the Blue Flame pulled out three close sets in succession to stun the Lions and move on to the Class 4A Upper State Championship.

Clemson council election correction

PICKENS — Following last Tuesday’s general election, the Courier erroneously reported that the City of Clemson would have a runoff for its three open city council seats.

Pickens County Election Director Amy Sams originally said that the top four vote getters Alma Evans (2,521), Windsor Sherill (2,489), Adam Jones (2,235) and Bob Brookover (2,183) would face off in a runoff. Sams has since stated she was mistaken in her calculation for a runoff.

The top three finishers Evans, Sherill and Jones, all newcomers to council, will take the open seats.

Proud of turnout at vets parade

Dear Editor,

I attended the veterans’ parade that was held in downtown Liberty last Sunday, Nov. 3.

We had a great time honoring our veterans with singing the national anthem and a time of prayer offered by Rev. Travis McAlister from Golden Creek Baptist Church.

We had the Jeep Club and other citizens of Pickens County drive our local veterans in the parade in
