School District of Pickens County receives 27 awards for outstanding communication efforts
COLUMBIA — The School District of Pickens County (SDPC) announced that eight schools/programs within the district, along with the district communications office, have been honored with a remarkable total of 27 prestigious awards from the South Carolina chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA) for their exceptional communication efforts last week.

Dale Holloway running for District 6 county council seat
DACUSVILLE — Dale Holloway has announced his candidacy for District 6 on the Pickens County Council. District 6 runs along the eastern

Scott Lang announces bid for District 4 county council seat
LIBERTY – Scott Lang is a candidate in the June 11 primary for District 4, the council seat which covers Liberty, Norris and western Easley.

Aftermath of the storms
About the time that I’d decided I needed a major shopping trip to replenish food and supplies, along came two back-to-back winter storms. The winds knocked out power, which took out the freezer and dairy sections of all the local stores, which meant they had to throw away all

MARGARET FUJI KELLY SMITH
DACUSVILLE — Margaret Fuji Kelly Smith, 75, passed away on March 26, 2024, after a three-year battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and husband of 57 years.
Born Aug. 28, 1948, in Yokohama, Japan, Margaret was the daughter of Yoshie Sugizaki Kelly and the late Edward L. Kelly.
Margaret worked in the banking industry and retired after 45 years of service. Her dedication to serving others is a reflection of her successful

COUNTY — With the school year winding down, Pickens County squads are hoping to finish the year strong in the South Carolina High School League playoffs.
The best represented school from Pickens County this season is Daniel High School, withits baseball, softball, boys’ tennis, boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer teams all represented in the Class 3A playoffs.
The Lions’ tennis team has already more than made its mark by downing Broome, Powdersville and Chapman on their way to their third consecutive upper state championship. The Lions will host Clinton

Easley (22-4) will host Lancaster Wednesday. Lancaster beat Greer, 12-3.
