Roper gives update on SC 183 safety enhancements

COUNTY — Work will be undertaken in the coming weeks to meet a deadline for planned safety improvements to S.C. Highway 183 — a deadline imposed by 
Mother Nature.
In October 2023, the State Transportation Infrastructure Bank approved awarding $44.7 million to Pickens County for safety enhancements on S.C. 183.
To qualify for those funds, Pickens County had to provide a local match of $22.5 million, which it was able to do thanks to funding from the General Assembly, the County Transportation Committee

JEFFREY NEIL HOOPER
EASLEY— Jeffrey Neil Hooper, 61, born May 22, 1962, passed away at home in 
Easley on Jan. 23, 2024.
Jeff was predeceased by his father, James Ronald Hooper. He is survived by his mother, Irene Hooper; two children, Chelsea Oslar (Tim) and Jordan Hooper (Alex); and one sister, Cyndi Hooper.
To those who have known Jeff, he will be forever remembered for his indomitable spirit, his tremendous love for Harley-Davidsons and a cool Chevy truck. Jeff was also known to enjoy the companionship of his dear friends, while oftentimes entertaining a good cold beer, or maybe even two. Jeff would be remiss if it wasn’t mentioned that he cherished the time he had with his best friend Steve Kitchens, who paved the way ahead and was assuredly awaiting Jeff’s arrival, so they could be reunited again.
