USPS Relocates All Operations at the Sunset Post Office, Effective November 18, 2025

SUNSET, SC — Effective immediately, the Postal Service announced all operations at the Sunset Post Office, 7149 Highway 11, Sunset, SC 29685, will be temporarily relocated due to facility lease non-renewal until further notice.

During the temporary relocation, all postal services previously offered at the Sunset Post Office will be available at the following alternate location:

WWII vet Pace visits Hagood Elementary for Veterans Day

PICKENS — Hagood Elementary had a unique visitor on Veterans’ Day this year.  World War II veteran Jim Pace, 99 years old, came to participate in the school’s parade through the hallways.

LHS football coach retires

LIBERTY — Coming off Liberty High School’s season ending loss on Friday night, Liberty head football Paul Sutherland announced his retirement on Monday.

Sutherland joined Liberty in 2021, bringing decades of experience and a proven track record. Before his time with the Red Devils, he led programs at Pendleton High School for 17 seasons and at Franklin County HighSchool in Georgia for three years. His overall head coaching record stands at 161-116.

Pickens restores historic outdoor warning siren

PICKENS —  At the direction of Mayor Isaiah Scipio, the City of Pickens has undertaken the restoration and reinstallation of a historic outdoor warning siren to strengthen community preparedness and emergency notification capabilities.

Over the next few weeks, crews will install a fully restored Federal Signal STH10 outdoor warning siren on the water tank located behind the shops on East Main Street.

American Legion honors local vets

EASLEY — Residents gathered last week to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans of this area and across the nation.

American Legion Post 52 held its annual Veterans Day observance Nov. 11 at Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.

“This is a special day for all of us to be able to remember ourfamilyand our friends who are not able to be with us today,” Post 52Commander Gary Hinton said.

The art students at Liberty High School know how to create art that dazzles and inspires, and at the November 4 Art Club meeting four talented artists, and their teacher Amanda Stokes, were recognized for their creativity by the Liberty Community Scholarship Board. The highly talented art contest winners who beautifully illustrated “The Joy of Christmas” are Holly Burgess who earned the first place honor; Bonnie Creely winning 2nd place, Brooklyn Johnson awarded 3rd place and Austin Jackson awarded 4th place; and, their artwork will be featured on the widely distributed 2025 LCS Christmas Card. Look for this card in your mailbox and at the Pickens County Museum. The art contest is sponsored by Strickland Services with many prizes awarded by community leaders including gift bags from CVS Liberty, manager Justice Simms; decorated chocolate chip cookie cakes from Ingles Liberty, manager Thomas Capogna; award certificates and cash prizes.
