Races set in municipal elections

COUNTY – Filing has officially closed for all but one of the municipal races this November.

Candidate filing closed at noon on Friday, August 1 for races in the Cities of Easley, Liberty, Pickens and the Towns of Central, Norris and Six Mile.
In Easley, incumbent Denise Davidson will face challenger April Searcy for the Ward 1 Seat on Easley City Council.
Incumbent Easley City Councilman David Jones filed for re-election for the Ward 4 seat and will face Chris Clark.
Bob Fedder and Hilary Koster will face each other for the Ward 6 Seat. Incumbent Jim

Former S.C. House Rep. Skelton dies

COUNTY — Former state representative, economics professor and longtime public servant B.R. Skelton died late last month at the age of 92.
Skelton, a Clemson native, served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2002-14, representing areas including Clemson, Central and Six Mile. Known by colleagues as “Clemson’s lobbyist in the House,” Skelton was widely respected for his advocacy for education and public service, particularly on behalf of Clemson University.

New book ‘a love letter to Pickens and Pickens County’

COUNTY — Author Charles Hood has written many books but he says his newest publication “is the first one I’ve done that’s about me.”
“Looking For Space: My Pickens Journey” came out last week.
“I grew up in Pickens but I wasn’t born in Pickens,” Hood said.
