Hiott presented with top state ag leadership honor

COLUMBIA — State Rep. Davey Hiott of Pickens has been named recipient of the John W. Parris Agricultural Leadership Award by the S.C. Association of Agricultural Educators.

The award was presented by Dr. Tom Dobbins, state director of the Clemson University Extension Service, during the annual state conference of agricultural educators.

Running for a cause

The Red, White and Blue Flame 5k was a success July 2 on the campus of Pickens High School, with proceeds benefiting PHS athletics. Those who staged the race would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers and participants. Without their support, the race would not have been a success, organizers said. Zac Doneth of Easley earned the overall male winner’s medal with a finish time of 17:30, while Jennifer Fisher of Columbus, N.C., was the overall female winner with a finish time of 20:23. The tale of the star-crossed lovers

Boomer is our beloved boxer bulldog. He’s five years old, an avid soccer player, handsome, personable and kind to children. He watches television through the window of the front porch if there’s something on he’s interested in.

He gets upset during a football game, because he is uneasy when people hit each other.

In other words, he is a very civilized dog.

Because he is five and soon to be six, we thought seriously about finding him a mate, but we didn’t want just anybody.

LIBERTY — Joyce Garrett Patterson, 83, beloved wife of 63 years to Dennis Patterson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Rosa Stasney Garrett.

Joyce was a dedicated and faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for many years. She was a true southern Christian woman with a heart of gold and unconditional love that she spread far and wide. Being a coach’s wife for numerous years, she enjoyed preparing large meals after the ballgames and taking care of the team as though they were her family.
