EASLEY — Staff of an organization whose longtime motto is “…where change begins” welcomed community partners last week to help them celebrate a change that has been long in the works.

Once located in four buildings on two sides of Pickens’ Main Street, Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County (BHSPC) now has most of its staff under one roof at 208 E. First Ave. in Easley.

The agency held an open house Friday morning, hosting tours of the renovated and reworked building that was once the Alice Manufacturing office. The festivities kicked off with a Greater

PICKENS — Protesters hoping to have U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and Congresswoman Sheri Biggs listen to their concerns about President Donald Trump and the role Elon Musk is playing in his administration were left disappointed last week.

Both Graham and Biggs were listed as expected guests on a pre-event release about the groundbreaking for the Heritage Pavilion at the Hagood Mill Historic Site.

Protesters showed up to the event hoping for an audience with

National Vietnam War Veterans Day | March 29

How can you honor Vietnam veterans in your community?

The Department of Veterans Affairs notes that approximately 2.7 million Americans served in the Vietnam War. There was strong domestic opposition to American involvement in the conflict, and many veterans returning from the war were treated poorly and unfairly. That made it difficult for Vietnam veterans to adjust to life at home, a problem compounded by the trauma of the war.

Although it is impossible to reverse time and remedy the poor treatment of Vietnam veterans, there are ways that the public can honor those veterans who sacrificed their safety and health in service of their country. These ideas can

Wave fall to Science Hill in spring break battle

The Easley High School baseball team hosted Science Hill of Johnson City, Tenn. on Friday. After falling behind big in the third inning, the Green Wave rallied in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to cut the Science Hill lead to 9-8. However, the Easley comeback came up short as the Hilltoppers pulled out a 10-8 win. Taking a moment to think out loud

Life is filled with ups and downs, joy and good times mixed in with seasons of discouragement and sadness.

I do not believe in a perfect life here on earth and this includes any human living above the reproach of sin and of course, all of us having everything perfect within our hopes and dreams of happiness. Even the individuals who have billions of dollars in the bank have times of frustration and disappointment. For example, even those who cruise the seas on luxury yachts have engine breakdowns, and stormy weather. Or how about those who have all the money they could ever spend but are so sick they cannot

Who is steering the ship?

Genesis 8:3-4 “And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.”

The Biblical description of the ark that Noah built under God’s direction, indicates only the dimensions (Genesis 6:15). It was built 300 cubits long (450 feet) by 50 cubits wide (75 feet) by 30 cubits high (45 feet), a three-dimensional box.

There is no scripture that we can reference that in any way describes a pointed bow

In support of Counts for House

Dear Editor,

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I endorse Clay Counts, who is running for Pickens County’s S.C. House District 4 seat since Davey Hiott is not seeking reelection. In talking with Clay, I feel he has a good understanding of the needs not just of the residents of Pickens County, but of the state as a whole.

Clay has worked closely with Rep. Hiott through the years and has gained the proper insight and ability to represent our

A slimmed-down VA

The staffing cuts at the Department of Veterans Affairs continue. As of today, another 585 non-mission-critical or duplicate contracts are terminated, out of 90,000 existing contracts totaling $67 billion. This will put $900 million back in the kitty to be spent on veterans, their caregivers, families and survivors.

That’s a lot of money.

It makes me wonder how those contracts came to be in the first place. The canceled contracts covered such services as taking minutes at meetings,

EDITH MCJUNKIN

LIBERTY — It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mrs. Edith Bowie McJunkin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and cherished member of the Liberty community, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Manna Health and Rehab in Pickens.

Born in Greenwood, she was the widow of Walter Ansel “Walt” McJunkin and a daughter of the late Claude and Louise Hall Bowie.

Mrs. McJunkin was a longtime member of East Side Baptist Church. She retired from Belk in Easley where she worked many years as a buyer and manager.

Her family was very important to her, and there was nothing that brought her more joy than spending time with all her boys and all her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, Steve McJunkin (Susan) of Central, Neal McJunkin (Dale) of
