School district reports more virus cases
Far fewer people in quarantine last week
COUNTY — After reaching a combined total of more than 860 staff members and students quarantined as a precaution against COVID-19 the previous week, the School District of Pickens 
County saw its numbers affected by the virus decline last week.
According to figures released Friday, the district had 551 students and 50 staff members quarantined last week, compared to 760 and 102, respectively, the previous week.

Daniel girls pull away late against Warriors

WESTMINSTER — After a defensive struggle in the first half, Daniel girls’ basketball coach Cosandar Griffin was in dire need of some offense against West-Oak last Tuesday night.
The Lions turned to sophomore guard Destiny Hoover and she delivered big, scoring 11 points in the second half as Daniel pulled away for a 41-27 victory.
“She’s such a hard worker,” Griffin said of Hoover. “She was the leader of the offense today, and I’m just lucky to have her.”

Canned food drive champs
Every year during basketball season, the Pickens Recreation Department sponsors a canned food drive to benefit Gleaning House Ministries. As an added incentive, the Pickens Recreation Department awards a pizza/ice cream party to the team that collects the most cans.
