EASLEY — The Pickens County Humane Society has raised enough money to keep it open until the end of the year.

Last week, PCHS officials were uncertain if the organization would be able to remain open.

The society hosted a luncheon in Easley Wednesday and gave attendees an update on its outlook.

“Hopefully, we’ll have many more, with your love and support of the animals,” Pree Hamilton said of the luncheon. “We strive to succeed.”

Earlier this month, the society announced that, due to financial strain, it would no longer be accepting animals and

Owens, who has served as mayor for 16 years, will have his seat filled by the winner of the race between local businessman Jeff Derrick and current City Councilman Fletcher Perry.

Easley will also have to replace longtime mayor Larry Bagwell, who has

EASLEY — Pickens County School Board trustees announced Monday night they are delaying a vote on a 2020-21 school calendar with an early starting date of Aug. 4 to hear more input from the community.

“We just wanted to kind of put the brakes on it a little bit and listen and collect opinions to make sure everybody’s heard before we move quickly into this,” chairman Brian Swords said.

But Swords said while the district feels fortunate to have been granted a waiver by the state, feedback from parents has included concerns about vacation plans and how the early
