Ground broken for new Pickens County hospital

EASLEY — Work is now underway on Prisma Health’s behavioral health hospital at the corner of US.. Highway 123 and S.C. Highway 153.

Hunter Kome, the CEO for Prisma Health’s Baptist Easley and Oconee Memorial hospitals, spoke at the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Luncheon on April 16. Prisma Health was the presenting sponsor of the luncheon.

Prisma Health is growing rapidly and seeing record volume, he said.

Man charged with attempted armed robbery

EASLEY — A man faces charges after an attempted armed robbery at an Easley clothing store last week.

Easley Police Department public information officer Lt. Ashley Anderson said in a release that officers  had responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at Ross Dress for Less at 6101 Calhoun Memorial Highway at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

Musings on cell phones

Dear Editor,

Cellphones do some strange things sometimes, you know.

Several years ago, I was going upstairs to my bedroom and the phone in my pocket started to ring! I answered, and it was 911!! They asked me if anything was wrong, and I told them I was OK. I have no idea how my cellphone dialed 911.

Here’s something scary. Ever thought about calling the phone number your family had when you were a child? The phone number that has been gone for decades? I thought about it once but decided not to.

Why? Well, as crazy as my life has been, whoever answered on the other end I was afraid could be me! A time-traveling phone signal lost out there in cyberspace floating
