Dear Editor,
The storms that hit our area Sunday did extensive damage across the Southeast region of the United States, resulting in death and destruction. One of the first things people think about during times like this is loss of electricity, which affects far more than comfort and convenience. Loss of power can have a tremendous adverse impact on life and safety for many people.
During these times, we also should remember the tens of thousands of dedicated lineworkers across the country who work tirelessly to maintain and restore electrical power to communities nationwide, often putting themselves in harm’s way.

LYDA ELIZABETH “LIB” HENDRICKS HAYES
PICKENS — Lyda Elizabeth “Lib” Hendricks Hayes passed from 
this life on April 14, 2019, at Manna Health and Rehabilitation in Pickens.
Born in Pickens County on March 11, 1924, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Hayes and her son Stanley Hayes and five siblings. She was the daughter of the late Ivy W. Hendricks Sr. and Pearle Childs Hendricks. She is survived by her daughter Jane H. Alexander and her husband Jarrel; one grandson, Chris Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Alexander and Ansley Chapman.
Lib was a lifetime member of Griffin Baptist Church, where she dedicated many years to teaching children’s Sunday school and diligently worked in numerous other areas, including 15 years with the Griffin Quilters. She was also very active for 40 years as a volunteer at Cannon Memorial Hospital. Her passions included her sewing and her flowers, second only to loving and caring for her family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 17, from 10-11 a.m. at Dillard Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Fred Astin and the Rev. Brandon Wimpey officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Griffin Baptist Church, 1629 Pumpkintown Highway, Pickens, SC 29671, or Elljean Baptist Church, 605 Elljean Road, Easley, SC 29640.
The family would like to express a special word of thanks for the wonderful care and love shown to their mother by the employees of Manna Health and Rehabilitation in Pickens.

EASLEY — Anne entered into eternal rest April 14, 2019.
She was 81 years young and is survived by her two sons, Nathan Andrew and Robert Stephen; his wife, Michelle; and six grandchildren.
Born in Simpsonville, to her parents Bob and Ruth Burdette (deceased), she resided in Easley for the vast majority of her blessed life after early years in Johnson City, Tenn., during WWII. EASLEY — William A. Robinson Jr. died peacefully at home in 
Easley, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
He was 93 years old. Bill was born in Easley in 1925, the son of the late W.A. “Alex” Robinson and Mary Burgess Robinson. He married Mary Elizabeth Black of Greenville in April 1953.
Bill graduated from Easley High School in 1942, Clemson College (Clemson University) in 1948 with a B.S. in economics, and from the University of South Carolina Law School with an L.L.B. in 1950 and a J.D. in 1970. He completed
Railroad Festival rolls into Central April 27

CENTRAL — The Central Railroad Festival is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in downtown Central.
The festival highlights the railroad heritage of Central, which got its name due to being located at the central point of the railroad line linking Atlanta and Charlotte.
Admission to the festival is free, festival director Noreene Billado said.
“There’s also free parking at remote sites with free CAT Bus shuttles to the festival,” she said.
This year’s festival features “lots of kids activities,” Billado said.
“There will be inflatables, crafts they can make and take (and) a children’s stage,” she said.
The children’s stage will host a children’s entertainer and magician, a martial arts group, Elevation Dance from Pendleton

Opera For Kids brings ‘Three Pigs’ to Pickens
PICKENS — A classic children’s story came to life recently for the students enrolled at the Pickens Presbyterian Church Child Development Center.
Opera For Kids, organized and administered by FBN Opera Productions of Chapin, arrived early on Friday, April 5, to set up the scenery for “The Three Pigs.”
Professional singers and actors from FBN Opera Productions, have been presenting children’s favorite stories set to music for 25 years.

FOB Foothills Lodge presents checks
On April 1, the Fraternal Order of Police Foothills Lodge No. 9 awarded a $286 check in support of the Special Olympics for Dacusville Middle School’s 35 participants in this year’s contest at Clemson University. there’s no reason to limit these dishes to the side category. The famous Vidalia is the perfect candidate for spring onion dishes. There isn’t an onion out there that can match its sweet mild flavor. With the exception of the onion sauce, a meal can be made from the onions alone.
Each season brings its own unique harvest to our attention. Let’s take advantage.
