Pickens WWII vet receives French honor
PICKENS — Nearly 80 years after risking his life on French soil during World War II, a Pickens resident was presented last week with the highest decoration bestowed by France for his heroic efforts.
Raymond Dawkins, 96, was awarded the French Legion of Honor by Vincent Hommeril, Consul General of France for the Southeastern United States. Dawkins is now a Chevalier (knight) in the Legion of Honor.
