Rain date scheduled for Ride for the Child

COUNTY — Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County (PCAPC) will hold a make-up rain date for the 15th annual Ride for the Child on Saturday, April 30.

The charity ride begins with registration from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Parenting Place in the Dalton Flats shopping center next to Solid Gold on S.C. 8 in Easley and ends at Michael’s Pizzeria with food and a free concert for participants. Vehicles of all type are welcome at the event.

While Ride for the Child was held on its original date on April 16, the inclement weather prevented many riders from participating in the event.

Funding was close to $10,000 short, so PCAPC hopes to make some of the money up by offering a second ride.

The scenic foothills route features stops including Spinx on Farrs Bridge Rd. and Aunt Sue’s on Highway 11. Cost per vehicle is $25 and includes one hand of cards. Additional hands are $10 each. Riders who pre-registered or registered on April 16 will be able to participate at no additional cost.

Along with food and live music, PCAPC will be providing prizes to the winners with the best and worst hand of cards. Proceeds from the event benefit the organization’s prevention programs which include intensive home visitation for teen moms, victim services, children’s programs, parent support groups, parenting classes and community education.

This year’s Ride for the Child sponsors include Bowers Emergency Services, Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County, Blue Ridge Fest 2011, Gregory Design, The Graphic Cow Company, Southern Exposure, Michael’s Pizzeria, Walmart, Sam and Jane Wyche, Spinx, People’s National Bank, Publix Super Markets Charities, Foothills FOP #9, Foothills Motorsports and Law Tigers.
