Scout Troop 51 leaders recognized

EASLEY — Three adult leaders for Scout Troop 51 received awards at the recent Pickens District Awards Banquet in Easley.

Larry Booty was named Pickens District Assistant Scoutmaster of the Year, while Blaine Grant was given the Sparkplug Award and Mike Parrott was honored with a Longevity to Scouts award for more than 50 years of involvement and service with Troop 51 and the scouts.

In 2010, Troop 51 celebrated 70 years of scouting. The troop meets at the “Scout Hut” on Blacksnake Road in Pickens every Monday night at 7 p.m. with outdoor adventures each month.

Adventures in 2011 for the troop have included caving, biking the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville and hiking on the Chattooga River.

For April, the troop will be camping in the Georgia mountains, visiting the Tallulah Gorge and working at the Azalea Festival.
