COUNTY — Former prominent local businessman and county council member Mac Welborn passed away Sunday at the age of 76.
Welborn, husband of Marie Oliver Welborn, was the owner of Welborn Furniture and Welborn Carpet and Flooring for 55 years. He served on county council for eight years.

In addition, Welborn served in the South Carolina National Guard for 33 years and as a volunteer fireman for 27 years. He was a former member of the Sertoma Club, Rotary Club, Pickens Country Club and Pickens Jaycees. Welborn was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Welborn is survived by three daughters and their husbands, as well as six grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Welborn’s life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church. The visitation will follow in the Fellowship Hall until 3:30 p.m.
