World War II vet Zig Boroughs to hold book signing this Saturday

PICKENS — Life-long Pickens resident and World War II veteran Zig Boroughs will be on hand for a signing of his latest book, “The 508th Connection,” on Saturday at Nestfeathers in Pickens.

As a member of the Enlisted Reserve Corps at the Citadel, Boroughs witnessed a demonstration parachute jump by airborne soldiers. When inducted into the army, Boroughs immediately volunteered for the paratroopers.

The book is Boroughs’ third published, along with “A Private’s Eye View of World War II,” in 1989, and “The Devil’s

EASLEY — It’s that time of year. The Easley Christmas parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m.. This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase your business and celebrate the season.

The Easley Christmas parade is one of the largest events in our area, and this year’s theme is “An Old Fashion Christmas”.

Carroll R. Hurley

Six Mile — Carroll Ray Hurley, 80, husband of Sherill Marr died Nov. 3, 2014.

Carroll was born in Bryson City, NC, son of the late Bass Lee and Ethel Seay Hurley. He was retired from Pickens County Recycling after a full working life as a Chemist with Dow Chemical, Technician with the Tega Cay Water Works near Rock Hill, Equipment Superintendant with RMI Oil Co, and as a long haul truck driver. A lifelong cowboy, he broke and trained horses for many years and traveled around the world 15 times. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in the Philippines and was a Shriner.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sherill of the home, a son, George Hurley (Cindy) of Six Mile, and two
