Baptist Easley Foundation names new board members

EASLEY — The Baptist Easley Foundation recently announced Anna Goodwin, Wil Jones, Chris Mann and Shirley Reese, all of Easley, have agreed to serve three-year terms on the foundation’s board of directors.

In addition, the foundation announced Drake Curry, Betty Garrison, Stacey Garrison and Jan Rushton Overton have each agreed to serve an additional three-year term on the board.

Simons honored at last council meeting

Easley mayor Larry Bagwell presented city administrator Fox Simons with a plaque for his service to the city at Monday night’s council meeting. Simons is leaving for another position later this month. While city councilmen lauded him for his accomplishments during his tenure, Simons said none would have been possible without the support of council.

 

Scott plans meeting in Pickens

CHARLESTON — Members of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott’s staff will visit Pickens next week as part of his 2015 Community Office Hours series.

Kicking off next week, the year-round series will start with eleven events throughout South Carolina. In each community, Scott’s staff will meet with residents and offer assistance with federal issues in their own communities.

CENTRAL — Before a parade of football players and their families made their way to be honored Wednesday morning, two other Daniel High School student-athletes enjoyed their moments by signing to continue their athletic careers at the next level.

First up was Taylour Hunter, who will continue her basketball career at Limestone, while Jacob Slann will stay considerably closer to home at Clemson, joining the Tigers’ cross-country and track and field teams.

gym to the point she had to stop to compose herself on multiple occasions.

“It was a very emotional day,” Griffin said. “I want what’s best for all of my players, but to have my daughter go on knowing her dream was to play at the next level, I’m glad she accomplished that.”

Hunter accomplished that thanks to her consistent level of play for the Lady Lions dating back to the eighth grade. Earning Western 3A all-region honors last season, she averaged 11 points, four assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block per game, and

Six Mile Rec announces 2015 spring sign-ups

SIX MILE — The Six Mile Recreation Department is taking sign-ups for baseball, softball and tee-ball through Feb. 27.

Participants may sign up at Six Mile Town Hall from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon.

Age divisions include tee-ball for boys and girls ages 4-6 ($40); coaches pitch

Six Mile spring baseball/softball clinic is March 7-8

SIX MILE — The Six Mile Recreation Department invites all area ball players to a preseason spring baseball/softball clinic at Ponderosa Park in Six Mile.

Featured instructors will include former collegiate players, as well as Daniel High School coaches and players. The clinic is designed for players ages 7-12.

Cost for the two-day clinic is $30. The fee includes a souvenir T-shirt. Schedule for the clinic is Saturday, March 7, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sunday

Easley Rec to offer free position camps

EASLEY — The Easley Recreation Department will be holding position camps (ages 8-13) beginning Feb. 21 for all kids interested in playing flag football and contact football. The camps will continue through July.

The purpose of the camps is to teach kids the basic fundamentals of football by position, increase knowledge of the game and to build team unity and concepts of the game of football. The camps are offered free.
