Officers investigate a shooting that took the lives of two people early Monday morning, on North Homestead Road in Pickens.

PICKENS — Two people are dead and another is in custody after a shooting Monday morning in Pickens, according to authorities.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Creed Hashe briefs reporters following shooting death of two people in Pickens on Monday.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Creed Hashe said the shooting took place shortly before 10 a.m. at the corner of Gilliland Road and North Homestead Road.

Hashe said police received a call at approximately 9:50 a.m. about multiple shots being fired, and when deputies arrived moments later, they found two adult male victims who died at the scene.

The chief deputy said officers were interviewing one person in custody, although the investigation is “extremely preliminary.”

“We don’t think there are any threats to the community,” Hashe said, adding authorities believe everyone involved in the incident is accounted for.

“It’s my understanding they were neighbors,” Hashe later added.

Hashe said the investigation will continue today, and he expects coroner Kandy Kelley to release the names of the victims at later today as well.
