Why tax reform is necessary

Then your tax code is 10 times longer than the Bible, you have a problem. Our current tax code is simply not benefiting American families — as I’ve said for far too long, Washington does not have an income problem, it has a spending problem.

Due to our overly complicated and antiquated tax code, there are Americans who have not seen a raise in decades. We can and must do better. We need to tackle tax reform head-on to create a tax code tailored for the 21st century. That means lowering taxes for middle- and lower-income Americans and coming

Regaining a positive attitude

Bonnie:

My attitude is changing, and I don’t like it. I am getting more and more depressed and feel that I am stuck in a rut. I’ve been taking care of my husband for three years. I no longer think about going out and having fun. I just put one foot in front of the day trying my hardest to survive. This is not the way to live. How can I regain a positive attitude?

Answer:

First and foremost, you are not alone. When you try to do everything yourself, life gets very tough and fun seems a distance away.

The first solution is to find respite (a temporary replacement for you from

Lions ready to kick off region schedule

By Bru Nimmons

CENTRAL — The Daniel Lions sit in a dire position after their mid-season bye.

With a 1-4 record and region play on the horizon, the next five weeks will make or break the Lions.

Coming off a surprise 6-4 comeback season in Jeff Fruster’s first season at the helm last year, Daniel has played below its expectations so far in 2017. The Lions have had a tough go of it thus far this season, losing their last four games after a hot start on a long road trip against former Daniel coach Randy Robinson’s Berkeley Stags.

The Lions started off the season with a 17-10 win over the Stags. Hoping to repeat last season’s start, Daniel fought hard throughout but was finished off late by both Easley and Seneca. The Lions then saw their toughest matchups to date against Greer and Westside and lost both by multiple scores despite putting up valiant efforts, particularly in the second halves.

A tough schedule is a big part of the team’s current 1-4 record, with their

Hobbled Wave take loss at Greenville

By Eugene Jolley

GREENVILLE — An injured and battered Easley Green Wave football team had the task of stopping the high-octane offense of ninth-ranked Greenville Friday night at Sirrine Stadium.

Easley’s defense played well for the most part, but the injury-plagued offense struggled in a 32-0 loss.

Playing a third consecutive game without quarterback Weston Black, Easley got receiver-slash-quarterback Isaiah Ferguson back for some of the game. But the Green Wave’s best offensive lineman, senior T.J. Solis, is out for at least a few weeks, if not for the season, with a leg injury.

More injuries happened Friday night, which makes next week’s region opener at undefeated T.L. Hanna even tougher. Lineman Chop Collins came out of the game, along with defensive lineman Mauricio Holcombe. Others are banged up and sore.

“Give them full credit for winning the game,” Easley coach John Windham said of the Red Raiders. “They’ve got a good team. I was proud of the way some guys stepped up. We’ve got to get

Liberty — It didn’t take Liberty long to take the lead Friday night against West-Oak as just 15 seconds into the game, the Red Devils scored on a 26-yard fumble return by Luke Terry.

The score was enough to win the game, but the Devils kept piling on to roll to a 44-0 victory over the winless Warriors to improve to 4-2 heading into the second half of the regular season.

Terry recovered a West-Oak fumble on the first play of the game and raced untouched to give Liberty the lead for good.

The Red Devils extended the lead to 16-0 in the first quarter thanks to a safety and a 9-yard Kevon Tabron touchdown run.

While the Warriors gave a determined effort, they were unable to put up

Seneca shuts out Blue Flame

By Cole Little

PICKENS — Beating the Pickens Blue Flame at their own game, the Seneca Bobcats coasted to victory on Friday night, outgaining the Blue Flame by 51 yards on the ground in a lopsided 38-0 win at Bill Isaacs Field in Pickens.

Firing on all cylinders after a disheartening loss to Easley the previous week, the Bobcats were efficient on both sides of the ball, while Pickens, which was coming off of a bye week, was not nearly as efficient, suffering from three turnovers on the night.

“Give Seneca credit,” Pickens head coach Chad Smith said after the game. “They’re really athletic. They’re a good football team. But we didn’t play disciplined football tonight. We had two fantastic weeks of practice leading up to this, but it didn’t show tonight.”

Led by running back Jeremiah Mackey, who amassed 94 rushing yards on 16 carries, the Bobcats collected 145 total rushing yards, producing several quick scoring drives thanks to lengthy rushes. The Bobcats set the tone early on with an
