Born on April 2, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Roy Green and Rebecca Brown Green. She loved the Lord and attended church any time she was able. Jennie had a heart devoted to serving others. With more than 30 years of service in the healthcare profession, she retired having touched countless lives through her care, kindness, and compassion. Pickens’ Svrlinga earns 2025 Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship

PICKENS — The Share America Foundation Inc. named 15-year-old Lilly Anne Svrlinga of Pickens as the 2025 Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship designee at the 33rd Boxcar Pinion Memorial Bluegrass Festival in Chickamauga, Ga.
The scholarship honors students excelling in Appalachian musical arts. Pearl and Floyd Franks were the late parents and former entertainment managers of actor/entertainer Randall Franks, known as officer Randy Goode on TV’s “In the Heat of the Night.”

Troop 51 scouts hike Chattooga Trail
The scouts of Troop 51 recently took a backpacking trip on the Chattooga River and hit the trail near Licklog Falls in Oconee County. Twenty-one scouts and adults made it on the hike. The trip was called the “Bradley Hawkins Memorial Hike” in memory of one of their former scout leaders and Eagle Scouts, who died as a result of a skateboarding accident in November 2021 at the age of 21. When Hawkins was a scout, he showed the troop the trail.
